Man told Ga. deputies he wanted body ‘gone’ from house. He’s now charged in stepfather’s murder

Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a stepson that allegedly killed his 79-year-old stepfather.

Just before 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, deputies were called to the 400 block of Madison Lane in Augusta in reference to a mental evaluation. When deputies got to the house, they were reportedly met with Marcus Banks, 38.

Officials said Banks told deputies there was a body in the home and that he wanted it gone.

Deputies reportedly detained Banks, while they searched the house.

While searching the home, deputies allegedly found Clarence Flanigan, 79, in the back bedroom with a stabbing wound in his upper torso. The coroner pronounced Flanigan dead just before 9 p.m.

Channel 2′s ABC affiliate WJBF reports that Banks is accused of stabbing Flanigan repeatedly using a black-handled knife with a five-inch-long blade.

According to the incident report, Flanigan was checked off as the stepparent of Banks. Banks was taken to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center and charged with murder, WJBF reports.

Coroner Mark Bowen told WJBF that an autopsy has been scheduled at the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur.
