Man in U-Haul flees police on I-75, caught in Ohio
A Detroit man was arrested Monday morning after he fled from police on I-75 while driving a stolen U-Haul truck and trailer.
The suspect, 25, was taken into custody just as he crossed the Ohio state line. He is facing charges in Monroe County, a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.
The chase began in Brownstown Township shortly after 2 a.m., the sheriff's office said. Officials with the Taylor Police Department alerted area agencies about the incident.
Deputies positioned themselves on southbound I-75 at Nadeau Road and were able to successfully deploy tire deflation devices, which punctured one of the trailer tires. The suspect continued fleeing southbound on I-75 where deputies again deployed tire deflation devices at Luna Pier Road. This time the U-Haul truck's tires were punctured.
The suspect continued driving the truck on the punctured tires until crossing into Ohio. The suspect then abruptly stopped just north of Alexis Road in Toledo and was taken into custody.
The Detroit man is being held in the Lucas County Jail pending extradition back to Michigan. He is expected to face charges in Monroe County for fleeing police and receiving and concealing stolen property.
The suspect’s identity is being withheld pending arraignment in First District Court.

Sheriff Troy Goodnough commended the collective efforts of acting Sgt. Ryan Sottile as well as Deputies Hunter Chirillo, Samantha Pitzen, Douglas Moore, Michael Gable and Melissa Henderson.
Additionally, Goodnough recognized the dispatchers at Monroe County Central Dispatch for coordinating and communicating information between multiple jurisdictions and deputies.
