Man Utd off-pitch losses halve as fans return
Manchester United's revenues rose in the first quarter due to fans returning to their Old Trafford stadium.
That's according to the English soccer club Wednesday (November 17).
Fans have filled out Old Trafford this season since restrictions were lifted.
The U.S.-owned team's total revenue rose 16% to about $170 million.
United said the revenue offset a rise in salaries driven by the return of iconic player Cristiano Ronaldo.
The club reported an overall loss of just over $20 million for the three months to the end of September.
That's better than a year before, where they lost around double that total.
Matchday revenues jumped to around $25 million.
United's off-pitch success has not been met with similar form on the pitch so far this year.
The club has lost four of its first 11 matches and lies sixth in the league.
United also went on a recruitment drive for players this summer.
French defender Raphael Varane and English winger Jadon Sancho arrived alongside Ronaldo in multi-million dollar deals.
