Man walking along U.S. 54 in Butler County dies after being struck by car

A man walking along U.S. 54 between Andover and Augusta on Monday night died after being struck by a car.

Butler County emergency crews responded to an accident at about 9 p.m. at mile marker 230 on U.S. 54 east of Andover, Butler County undersheriff Daimon Cundiff said in a news release.

The pedestrian, who the sheriff’s office has been unable to identify, died at the scene, Cundiff said.

“He is described as a white or Hispanic male believed to be in his twenties, with short black hair, a short beard, numerous tattoos and dressed in black jeans and a gray tank top,” according to the news release.

The man did not have a wallet or identification on him, the sheriff’s office told an Eagle reporter.

The man was walking in the outside westbound lane of traffic of U.S. 54 when he was struck by a 2015 Honda Accord that was also heading west, Cundiff said.

The driver of the Accord, a 60-year-old man from rural Douglass, Kansas, called 911, Cundiff added.

Authorities said driver impairment is not a factor in the crash.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who may have seen the man or may have information on his identity to call 316-322-4254.
