Man wanted in Colorado taken into custody in Kansas following police pursuit

TREGO COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — A man wanted in Colorado has been taken into custody in Kansas following a police pursuit Monday.

According to the Trego County Sheriff’s Office, an “attempt to locate” was aired over police radio at 3:15 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 29, for a suspect wanted for charges in Colorado.

Nearly two hours later, at 5:19 p.m., the suspect’s vehicle was located west of WaKeeney.

The Kansas Highway Patrol initiated a traffic stop, and the suspect immediately fled in their vehicle.

The TCSO says the vehicle crossed the median into oncoming traffic, causing danger to other drivers.

The KHP intervened, doing a tactical vehicle intervention and sending the suspect’s vehicle into a retaining concrete wall.

But the suspect continued to flee, headed westbound, before crossing the median and continuing eastbound toward WaKeeney.

The WaKeeney Police Department deployed stop sticks, striking the vehicle’s tires. This slowed the pursuit.

Two miles after hitting the stop sticks, the suspect’s vehicle was disabled.

The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. He has been identified as a 30-year-old man. KSN does not name suspects unless charges are made in their case.
