A man wanted in connection with a homicide in Holly Hill last month rammed a Daytona Beach police patrol vehicle on Tuesday in an attempt to escape capture, police said.

Kurtis Elliott, 19, of Crestview, slammed a Nissan Infiniti into the front of a patrol car. He was arrested and charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, and trafficking in fentanyl and methamphetamine. He was in the Volusia County Branch Jail on Wednesday without bail.

Elliott is a "person of interest" in the shooting death of Lawrence Davis, 24. The shooting occurred at the After Shine Car Wash at 1757 Nova Road on March 30, according to Holly Hill police.

Holly Hill police said that Elliott and Davis got into an argument that turned into a physical fight. During the fight, a single gunshot hit Davis.

Davis was taken to AdventHealth Daytona by his brother, who was also at the scene of the shooting. Because of the severity of Davis' injury, he was transferred to Halifax Health Medical Center and died while undergoing surgery.

On Wednesday, Holly Hill police Chief Jeff Miller said Elliott has not been charged with Davis' shooting death but that he remains a person of interest in the homicide.

Daytona Beach police found Elliott in a parking lot at 141 South Nova Road. Knowing Elliott was a suspect in the Holly Hill homicide, they moved in to apprehend him, a charging affidavit states.

When an officer in a patrol vehicle approached the Infiniti that was backed up in a parking space, Elliott accelerated forward and slammed into the police vehicle. The patrol vehicle was damaged but it stopped Elliott from fleeing, the report said.

In Elliott's vehicle, police found drugs and money.

In the car, Daytona Beach police found a digital scale, cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, five cell phones, and $470 in cash among other items. Police also found Super Inositol, a substance used to mix with drugs to dilute purity, police said.

Elliott was also arrested on open warrants charging him with failure to appear, burglary of an occupied dwelling, resisting an officer, and for fleeing and eluding.
