Man wanted for escaping work detail in Mississippi caught in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man wanted for escaping work detail in Mississippi was captured in Memphis Monday afternoon.

On January 23, two jail trustys, Moumen Mawlawi and Gene Dewayne Saulsberry, walked away while working at the Heartland Hands Food Pantry in Horn Lake, Mississippi.

According to the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department, the escapees are low-level offenders.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says Monday, around 2 p.m., members of their Fugitive Apprehension Team found Saulsberry at a residence in the area of Dupre Street and Clarke Road.

He was taken into custody without incident and charged with escape.

Mawlawi was captured last month at a hotel on American Way. Officials say his girlfriend, Asya Gardner, helped Mawlawi escape.
