Man wanted for Georgia, South Carolina armed robberies arrested in North Augusta

A man wanted for two separate armed robberies in Georgia and South Carolina was arrested Sunday in North Augusta.

Jeremiah Shearouse, 43, of Pooler, Georgia, is charged with disposal of a stolen vehicle, according to jail records.

Just before 3 p.m. Saturday, North Augusta Public Safety officers were assisting with a funeral escort when Shearouse was seen walking on Georgia Avenue near Medlin Road, according to an incident report.

Officers recognized him as the person of interest in two armed robberies, in Savannah, Georgia and Dorchester County, South Carolina, and a carjacking earlier in the day in Aiken County, according to the report.

When officers tried to speak with Shearouse, he fled into a wooded area between Medlin Drive and West High Street, according to the report. Officers chased Shearouse on foot but lost sight of him in the woods.

He ran into an empty home on the 1800 block of Marion Avenue and SWAT arrived on scene, according to the report. SWAT found Shearouse hiding in the attic and he was arrested.

Shearouse was transported to the Aiken County Detention Center and was later granted a $10,000 bond, according to jail records.
