CLEVELAND (WJW) – A man wanted for an Arkansas murder was arrested but U.S. Marshals in Cleveland Friday afternoon.
According to investigators, police officers responded to a shooting in Little Rock on Nov. 27, 2023.
When they arrived, officers found the victim, 21-year-old Avron Britton lying in the street with gunshot wounds. He died from his injuries.
A warrant was issued for 27-year-old Stephen Johnson on Dec. 3.
U.S. Marshals say investigators tracked the suspect down to a home in the 11800 block of Imperial Avenue in Cleveland. He was arrested Friday and taken to Cuyahoga County Jail before being extradited back to Arkansas.
“Northern Ohio is not a safe haven for fugitives wanted for murder,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in a statement. “The officers that make up our fugitive task force take pride in protecting the streets of northern Ohio, by taking violent fugitives, no matter where they are from, off our streets.”
This is the second time within 24 hours that U.S. Marshals arrested someone wanted for out-of-state murder charges. According to investigators, Davonte Childs, who was wanted for a Georgia murder, was arrested in Euclid on Thursday.
