Man who killed Vietnamese girlfriend jailed nine and half years

A 40-year-old Singaporean man who killed his Vietnamese girlfriend was sentenced to jail on Monday (14 Mar).

Lim Hou Peng Jackson, was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to a jail term of four years and six months.

Justice Tay Yong Kwang also found the odd-job worker guilty on an additional drug consumption charge and sentenced Lim to five years imprisonment and three strokes of the cane.

Lim’s girlfriend, Tran Cam Ny, 32, was found dead on 20 November 2014 at a flat in Ang Mo Kio.

Media reports said Tran had been working in Singapore as a hostess since 2004 and had been going out with Lim for almost five years.

Lim and his girlfriend had consumed drugs on the night she died, and were involved in an argument that eventually led to her death when Lim covered her face with a blanket.

In mitigation, Lim’s counsel, Lim Lay Choo said her client had no intention of murdering the victim.

She added that Lim had in fact called the police and tried to revive the victim when he discovered he had hurt her.

She added that Lim lost his father to cancer in 2015 and had regretted killing the woman that he really loved.

Wearing a white top, Lim, who has tattoos on his arm and neck, was emotionless as he sat in the dock.

Justice Tay, when delivering his judgement said the case demonstrated how taking illegal drugs could lead to a sad and consequential end.

Addressing the accused, Justice Tay said, “ I do hope this is the last time that you will take drugs and when you are released, do not take them anymore.”
