Man, woman accept plea deals in separate cases at Ocala courthouse

A man and woman took plea deals in separate cases at their pre-trial hearings held separately in front of a judge.

Pambela Denise Carter

On Tuesday, Circuit Judge Anthony Tatti accepted a no contest plea from Pambela Denise Carter on charges of leaving the scene of a crash with property damage and driving while license is suspended or revoked, court records show.

It was Carter's ninth driving while license or suspended offense, according to the woman's arrest report.

Carter received six months of probation and as part of her agreement, must complete a basic driver improvement course, make restitution to the victim or victims, do 200 hours of community service and pay fines and court costs, according to court documents.

Carter had 178 days of credit time served while at the Marion County Jail, officials said.

The 42-year-old Anthony woman was driving a car that hit and seriously injured a motorcyclist in late October 2018, law enforcement officials said.

After the crash, authorities said Carter exited the vehicle and walked to her job that was close to the scene, located off State Road 200.

When officers spoke to Carter, she denied driving the car. Witnesses, including a police officer, said they did not see anyone in the vehicle with Carter.

Douglas P. Clark

Days earlier on June 9, Tatti sentenced Douglas P. Clark to almost three years in prison and four years of probation for two counts of grand theft and one count of burglary of a dwelling, according to court records.

Clark, 35, of Old Town, pleaded no contest to the offenses and had 1,045 days of credit time served while at the jail. His incarceration and probation is to run concurrently, records show. With Clark spending so much time time behind bars, he was released on June 10, jail records show.

While on probation, the Dunnellon man has to complete a substance abuse evaluation, cannot consume any illegal substance or medication without a valid prescription and is forbidden to come within a mile of the victim's property, officials said.

Douglas was scheduled to have his pre-trial hearing on June 15.

Sheriff's deputies said Clark and three others — Virginia Marie Huggins, Steven James McDaniel and Alan Joseph Dones — illegally entered a Dunnellon residence and stole property and cash valued at nearly $30,000 in summer 2019.

In late July 2019, deputies went to a Dunnellon address where they were told that knives, jewelry and other items were removed from the residence.

A few days after the burglary, a sheriff's deputy stopped a vehicle driven by Huggins and recovered some of the properties that were in the vehicle.

The names of the others were given to deputies and they were apprehended by law enforcement officials.

The case against Huggins, 28, from Belleview, is ongoing. Two months ago, Huggins was arrested for two counts of deposit with intent to defraud and failure to return leased property, records show.

McDaniel, who has no address, was sentenced on June 15 to four years of probation after pleading no contest. The 34-year-old has 1,052 days of credit while at the jail. He's presently at the jail for a grand theft warrant charge from Dixie County, jail records show.

Dones, whose case is ongoing, remains at the jail for failure to appear on seven charges that includes grand theft and drug possession. He has been at the jail since July 2021.
