WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — One man is recovering after someone shot him Wednesday afternoon in the Petworth Neighborhood.

Police say the shooting happened around 1:15 p.m. in front of Powell’s Barber Shop on Upshur St., NW. The man suffered a wound to the left arm. The last update, according to police, is that he’s in stable condition.

Police released a picture (below) of the baby blue Mercedes-Benz they say the suspect fled in from the attack.

“I’m really thinking about getting me a gun because this is crazy,” said Darlene Johnson, a neighbor. “I’m afraid. I’m afraid to walk these streets. I’ve been living around here for 25 years and I’ve never been this afraid.”

The area is part of Ward 4, which so far this year has reported six assaults with a dangerous weapon.

“The mayor [Muriel Boswer] got to do something. Somebody’s got to do something about this shooting. It is so dangerous out here now,” Johnson said. “I live around the corner and I’m afraid to walk out of my house. And they got to do something”

Police did not say what prompted the shooting, but it remains under investigation.
