Casino: Patron accidentally shot passenger outside suburban casino
A patron visiting of a Des Plaines casino accidentally shot a passenger in his vehicle sitting inside the business’ parking garage, officials with Rivers Casino said Saturday.
The unidentified person who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg flagged down a Des Plaines police officer patrolling the casino parking lot at 3000 S. River Rd. just after 12:50 a.m. Saturday, Des Plaines police said.
The officer provided first aid for the wound, which police described as non life threatening. Des Plaines fire department personnel took the victim to a nearby hospital.
A spokesperson for the casino released a statement Saturday saying a patron had accidentally fired the weapon, adding that no weapons were ever in the casino.
Des Plaines police initially gave no indications that the shooting was accidental, saying they’d identified two people associated with the shooting.
