Royals manager Matt Quatraro might just be a pretty good poker player, because he’s not one to show his hand even in baseball matters.

During his weekly visit on SiriusXM’s MLB Network Radio on Sunday morning, Quatraro was asked about the upcoming trade deadline.

The Star’s Jaylon Thompson wrote about some Royals players who could be moved by the Aug. 1 deadline.

On Sirius XM, Quatraro talked about two players in particular: catcher Salvador Perez and starting pitcher Zack Greinke.

“I would assume that Salvy would be here for sure,” Quatraro said. “But you know, I don’t know that. I don’t know that definitely. I know Greinke, he likes it here. You know, I don’t know what his contract status is with no trades and all that kind of stuff. So I’ll know on Aug. 2.”

That’s hardly definitive from Quatraro, but it does seem like he expects both to remain with the Royals for the rest of the season. At least that’s the way it seems to me.

When Greinke signed a one-year deal with the Royals in February, he got a no-trade clause, the MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reported. Of course, that can always be waived.

Greinke, 39, is being paid $8.5 million this season plus incentives for innings pitched.

Perez, 33, is making $20 million a year through the 2025 season, per Cot’s Contracts. He also could decline to be traded because he has 10 years of Major League service time and has spent the past five consecutive years with the Royals. That’s known as having 10-and-5 rights.
