Manatee Village Historical Park and the Manatee County Historical Commission are seeking volunteer judges for Manatee History Day 2022. This year’s contest will be a virtual contest.

The virtual academic competition for middle and high school students will take place from Jan. 28 to Feb. 4 and judging can be completed from home. Manatee History Day is an affiliate of National History Day, a research-based program that spans the school year, providing students with a unique opportunity to practice intensive historical research and interpretation.

Each History Day project must address the annual theme. This year’s theme is “Debate & Diplomacy in History: Successes, Failures, Consequences.” Students with outstanding projects from Manatee History Day will be selected to move on to Florida History Day in Tallahassee, with a chance to go on to National History Day.

To participate, a judge needs access to a computer and the internet. Volunteer judges may register via email at history.day@manateeclerk.com and by contacting Allyson O’Leary at 941-749-7165. Judges will receive training that will be made available on Friday. If needed, a one-on-one training can be scheduled with O’Leary.

Students will present their findings through categories established by National History Day. The categories include historical papers, websites, documentaries, performances, and exhibit boards. Judges will analyze projects and the way they are presented.

This program is offered in conjunction with the Manatee County Historical Commission, Inc. Manatee Village Historical Park staff members serve as county coordinators for National History Day. For more information, visit facebook.com/manateehistoryday.

The Clerk of the Circuit Court was established as a public trustee by the Florida Constitution in 1838. For information, visit manateeclerk.com.
