Follow live reaction as Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League table and opened up a three-point lead over Liverpool in the title race thanks to victory over Newcastle.
City were looking to bounce back from their shock elimination from the Champions League on Wednesday and Raheem Sterling’s 18th-minute header put Pep Guardiola’s side back on track as they returned to their title bid.
It was quickly followed by a second from Aymeric Laporte - turned over the line after Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka spilled the ball in the box - before Rodri scored City’s third from another corner in the second half.
Newcastle had a good chance to open the scoring after Chris Wood was allowed a free header from six yards out, and it wasn’t until the match was put beyond them that Newcastle showed some life again.
But Phil Foden added a fouth and Sterling scored his second as City wrapped up a huge victory in stoppage time. Liverpool can close the gap when they travel to Aston Villa on Tuesday, before City face Wolves at Molineux on Wednesday. Relive Manchester City’s comfortable win over Newcastle, below:

Full-time! Manchester City secure huge win over Newcastle United
18:27 , Dan Austin
And that’s it! The glut of goals may have come late on but five is nothing fewer than Manchester City deserved for a terrific performance.
Raheem Sterling score dthe opener as he nodded home after a superb pass from Ilkay Gundogan found Joao Cancelo, before Aymeric Laporte scrambled home a second after Martin Dubravka spilled the ball into his path.
In the second-half, Rodri headed home Kevin de Bruyne’s corner for three before a couple of scintillating moves ended with fine finishes from Pfil Foden and Sterling again for five.
City now lead Liverpool by three points, and have goal difference advantage of four.
GOAL! Sterling scores again for City
18:23 , Dan Austin
93’ Manchester City 5-0 Newcastle United
This a rout now and it’s everythign Manchester City deserve for a marvellous performance.
It’s Jack Grealish with superb work on the left again as he beats Trippier and finds Foden in the penalty area. Foden replies with a sumptuous backheel before the unmarked Sterling arrives in the middle of the box and slams home a great finish past Martin Dubaravka.
What a performance, what a result, and what a response to the heartbreak in Madrid in midweek.
GOAL! Foden scores fourth for Man City
18:19 , Dan Austin
91’ Manchester City 4-0 Newcastle United
Phil Foden scores a fourth for Manchester City!
Jack Grealish beats Keiran Trippier with a burst of pace down the left-hand side and cuts the ball back towards Kevin de Bruyne just inside the box.
The Belgian drags the ball towards goal and his cross/shot is swept home by susbtitute Foden on the turn.
That takes City three ahead of Liverpool on goal difference now.
Manchester City make final change as Laporte goes off
18:17 , Dan Austin
88’ Manchester City 3-0 Newcastle United
Aymeric Laporte has been withdrawn by Pep Guardiola in the final stages of this game as 19-year-old Conrad Egan-Riley comes on to partner Fernandinho in the final moments.
Still no words on whether Ruben Dias was taken off at half-time because of injury, but Nathan Aké must be sat on the ebnch wondering what has to happen for him to get on the pitch...
Wilson misses big Newcastle chance
18:13 , Dan Austin
84’ Manchester City 3-0 Newcastle United
Newcastle United have their first real opprtunity since the opening minutes of the game but Callum Wilson has spurned it.
The returning striker did well to win a header thirty yards from goal and nodded the ball down to Jacob Murphy, who then released Wilson with a through ball which took the flat-footed Fernandinho out of the equation.
Wilson carries the ball into the penalty area but is Ederson is quick off his line and the forward hits the ball directly at him.
Jacob Murphy on for Newcastle
18:10 , Dan Austin
80’ Manchester City 3-0 Newcastle United
Jacob Murphy is Ncewastle’s final change as he comes on to replace Miguel Almiron.
In the past ten minutes or so the game has petered out a little as both sides seem quite content to shake hands on 3-0. One or two more for City though could potentially prove pivotal if they lost a game beofre the end of the campaign and ended up on the same points total as Liverpool.
Booking for De Bruyne
18:05 , Dan Austin
75’ Manchester City 3-0 Newcastle United
Kevin de Bruyne’s name has gone into the referee’s book for a cynical foul on Allan Saint-Maximin as the Frenchman dribbled towards goal inside the City half.
It’s clever play from De Bruyne, in truth. The counter-attack is prevented and City’s goal difference advantage over LIverpool is maintained.
Zinchenko hits crossbar for City
17:58 , Dan Austin
69’ Manchester City 3-0 Newcastle UnitedManchester City almost have a fourth as Oleksandr Zinechko meets Jack Grealish’s cut-back to the egde of the box with his in-step and hits a wicked shot which Martin Dubravka tips onto the top of the crossbar.
The Ukranian has never scored in the Premier League but camer might close, there. That was an excellent stop from Dubravka.
Now the returnign Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier are on for Newcastle, in place of Chris Wood and Emil Krafth.
Foden replaces Jesus for City
17:54 , Dan Austin
65’ Manchester City 3-0 Newcastle United
Manchester City are making their second subsitution of the afternoon as Gabriel Jesus is replaced by Phil Foden.
Jesus came close to getting on the end of a couple of cutbacks in the first-half but was probably the quietest of all six of City’s midfield and forward players this afternoon.
Pep Guardiola’s men have now scored as many goals as Liverpool this season, and are three points ahead with a goal difference advantage of two.
Goal! Rodri scores City’s third!
17:50 , Dan Austin
61’ Manchester City 3-0 Newcastle United
Manchester City have a third and it’s set-piece expert Rodri with his sixth of the season.
The Spaniard powers home a header inside the near post from a great Kevin de Bruyne delivery, and City’s lead is very comfortable indeed now.
After the pain of the midweek exit to Real Madrid, this has been the perfect response from Pep Guardiola’s men.
17:48 , Dan Austin
59’ Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle United
A little brighter from Newcastle as Burno Guimaraes leads a breakaway and finds Allan Saint-Maximin on the left-hand side. He moves from inside to outside to beat Joao Cancelo and make his way towards the penalty area but then drags a harmless shot wide of the near post.
Nothing much to shout about for the Magpies since the opening fifteen minutes but that at least was a passage of play in which they had some decent possession and were in and around the home side’s box.
City with total domination of the ball
17:43 , Dan Austin
53’ Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle United
Manchester City haven’t quite fashioned a clear-cut opportunity so far in the second-half but have managed a staggering 99 percent of possession in just under ten minutes of football.
Newcastle are heading crosses away well and defending in a decent shape but they simply cannot get hold of the ball.
Second-half underway with Fernandinho on for City
17:35 , Dan Austin
46’ Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle United
The second-half has just kicked off at the Etihad and Manchester City have made a change.
Club captain Fernandinho is on in place of Ruben Dias, who has been removed at half-time in what I can only presume has been injury-enforced.
With the gap to Liverpool at three points as things stand, City could look to protect themselves from a goal difference swing by trying to nab another couple in the second-half here.
Half-time! Manchester City comfortably leading Newcastle United
17:22 , Dan Austin
Half-time: Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle United
That’s the end of the first 45, then, and Manchester City are full value for their two goals lead over Newcastle United.
The visitors began the game respectably and dominate dpossession, before striker Chris Wood wasted golden opportunity to open the scoring by nodding a tame header directly into the gloves of Ederson from just outside the six-yard box.
After a quarter-of-an-hour City took control and Raheem Sterling headed in the opener after Joao Cancelo glanced Ilkay Gundogan’s gorgeous clipped ball into his path. Then Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka made a dreadful hash of trying to hold onto Gundogan’s shot and spilled it into the path of Ruben Dias and eventually Aymeric Lapotre, who slammed the ball home to double the lead.
City were a little slow to start but have demonstrated their sheer quality with increasing frequency as the half has gone, and Kevin de Bruyne in particular has been superb.
Almost a third for Manchester City
17:18 , Dan Austin
45’ - Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle United
Just before the half-time whistle and City almost increase their advantage.
Raheem Sterling and Jaoao Cancelo play a great combination down the right-hand side which releases the latter to play a wonderful cut-back across the face of goal, but Jack Grealish isn’t lively enough to it to arrive at the far post and instead the ball drifts out of play for a goal-kick.
Another really smart move.
De Bruyne goes on excellent mazy run
17:14 , Dan Austin
43’ - Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle United
Kevin de Bruyne launches forward as Manchester City counter following a Newcastle set-piece, and though it eventually comes to nothing, the Belgian’s exquisite movement really was something to behold.
He danced through three black-and-white shirts in midfield before sprayign a pinpoint ball out to the left to move his etam forward, before the attack began to fizzle out.
De Bruyne has been absolutely superb in this half.
GOAL! City double their lead
17:10 , Dan Austin
38’ - Manchester City 2-0 Newcastle United
Manchester City are now two goals to the good and they a howler from Martin Dubravka to thank for it.
The Slovakian can’t hold onto Ilkay Gundogan’s volley from outside the penalty area. After spilling it once into the path of Ruben Dias, he paws it away towards Aymeric Laporte who slams the ball in the net.
The home side probably home and dry now, before the half-time whistle.
City come close to a second
17:06 , Dan Austin
34’ - Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
It’s another lovely move from Manchester City and they’re so close to doubling their lead.
Kevin de Bruyne plays a pristine through ball to Oleksandr Zinchenko down the elft-hand side of the penalty area, and the Ukranian’s pass across the face of goal drifts agnolsingly in front of Gabriel jesus who can’t quite apply the finish.
City are playing really well now.
Gundogan flashes shot wide of goal
17:03 , Dan Austin
30’ - Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
It’s not often that a Manchester City player takes a pot shot from distance but Ilkay Gundogan tries one here and it almost pays off.
The German lines the ball up thirty yards out from goal and hits a powerful, arrowed effort towards the far post whcih has Martin Dubravka scramblign but ultimately flies a foot or so wide.
Newcastle goal ruled out for offside
16:56 , Dan Austin
24’ - Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
Newcastle have the pull in the net but it’s ruled out correctly for offside.
Chris Wood meets a corner with a towering header and the ball is heading for the far corner but hits Burno Guimareas in an offside position.
The ball then drops to Wood who slams it home but the touch from the Brazilian means it’s ruled out. If the original header had not hit Guimaraes we’d be all level here.
GOAL! Sterling gives City the lead
16:51 , Dan Austin
19’ - Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
After missing a couple of early opportunities, Manchester City are indeed ahead.
Ilkay Gundogan clips an absolutely gorgeous ball towards the far side of the penalty area, where Joao Cancelo beats Dan Burn to the header and plays the ball back across the box for Raheem Sterling to nod into the empty net.
Normal service for Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad.
Cancelo blazes another City chance over
16:48 , Dan Austin
17’ - Manchester City 0-0 Newcastle United
Gabriel Jesus holds the ball up on the right-hand side of the Newcastle penalty area, waiting for Kevin de Bruyne to arrive on the overlap.
Once the Belgian is there, he delivers sumptuous left-footed cross to the unmarked Joao Cancelo arriving at the back post, but the Portuguese defender but his foot through the ball and sends his shot careering into the stands.
He had time to take the ball down if he wanted but chould certainly have done better with the shot anyway.
Newcastle dominating possession so far
16:45 , Dan Austin
14’ - Manchester City 0-0 Newcastle United
Just under a quarter-of-an-hour played and Newcastle are holding their own and playing well at the Etihad.
In an immense rarity for an away side against Manchester City, the Magpies have actually had more of the ball so far, with 57 percent of possession to City’s 43. Bruno Guimaraes is looking to break forward whenever he picks up the ball in a central area.
Laporte wastes great chance for City
16:42 , Dan Austin
11’ - Manchester City 0-0 Newcastle United
The home side are immediately on the attack and force a corner after strong wok down their left-hand side.
When the cross comes in Aymeric Laporte has the chance to hit a shot towards goal when totally unmarked in the penalty area but blazes it high over the bar when he should have at least hit the target.
Pep Guardiola is very disappointed with the Spain international’s attempted finish.
Newcastle spurn a big chance on the counter
16:41 , Dan Austin
9’ - Manchester City 0-0 Newcastle United
Newcastle have made their first foray forward and in truth should be ahead.
Allan-Saint Maximin breaks free on the right-hand side after a swift counter-attack but his ball across towards Miguel Almiron is blocked. City have the chance to reset themselves in defence but fail to deal with the Frenchman’s second delivery and Chris Wood wastes a glorious opportunity as he nods a team header low and directly into the arms of Ederson from about eight yards out.
An enormous chance for Wood.
De Bruyne hits free-kick wide after good Grealish work
16:37 , Dan Austin
6’ - Manchester City 0-0 Newcastle United
Jack Grealish wrestles the ball back excellently from Bruno Guimaraes on the edge of the Newcastle penalty area and draws a foul from the Brazilian just before he makes his way into the penalty area.
Kevin de Bruyne lines up the resultant free-kick but sends a dipping shot comfortably wide of the near post. Dubravka never troubled in the visitors’ goal.
City targeting left of Newcastle defence
16:34 , Dan Austin
2’ - Manchester City 0-0 Newcastle United
No clear-cut chances for Manchester City in the opening couple of minutes, but they have worked a couple of dangerous-looking positions on the left-hand side of the Newcastle Unietd defence with Matt Targett looking isolated.
Nothign comes of either bit of pressure but those are the kind of templates City will be targeting all afternoon.
Kick-off! Manchester City 0 - 0 Newcastle United
16:31 , Dan Austin
We’re underway at the Etihad!
Manchester City have kicked things off at the Etihad as they look to take a three point elad over Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table. Newcastle United have taken only two points here in 16 previous visits, but can they throw a spanner in the works today?
Follow here to see how things play out.
Special Aguero training shirts for Manchester City
16:26 , Dan Austin
Manchester City are wearing special training shirts before this afternoon’s game in order to make the tenth anniversary of former striker Sergio Aguero’s late strike against QPR which snatched the 2011/12 Premier League title away from rivals Manchester United on the last day of the season.
The Argentine forward was forced to retire from football earlier this season after a heart defect was discovered while he was playing for new club Barcelona.
Recovery from Real Madrid defeat a “question of time”, says Guardiola
16:21 , Dan Austin
Pep Guardiola says that recovering from the pain of defeat to Real Madrid in midweek will take time for Machester City, but insists that Liverpool’s draw with Tottenham Hotspur has changed nothing for his team-mate ahead of this afternoon’s match against Newcastle United.
“[The mood is [much better than yesterday by far,” he told Sky Sports before kick-off. “It’s normal, it’s a question of time. It’s football, it’s life. We did many good things, it happened and that’s all.”
“[Liverpool’s draw] doesn’t change anything,” he added. “We still have to win all our games. Nothing changed.”
Newcastle preparation disrupted by Saint-Maximin comments
16:16 , Dan Austin
Newcastle United’s preparations for their trip to face the champions this afternoon were disrputed by midweek comments from mecurial forward Allan Saint-Maximin.
The Frenchman gave an interview in his homeland blaming his profligate team-mates for his lack of assists this season, and said he believes he is as good as Sadio Mane.
‘The day I get a team-mate who is able to convert the chances I create, I will have 10 to 15 successful assists every season,’ Saint-Maximin told French publication So Foot. ‘That will change people’s minds.’
‘Those who have played alongside me know full well that when it comes to pure quality, I have no cause to be jealous of [someone like] Sadio Mane. But the difference between these great players and me is that they show a lot of things on the pitch.’
Manchester City vs Newcastle United line-ups

GOAL! Arsenal 2-1 Leeds: Llorente hammers home at back post
15:27 , Jack Rathborn
GOAL! Llorente hammers Leeds back into the game, hope for the 10 men at the Emirates, 2-1
It was Firpo at the front post flicking it on and Arsenal didn’t bother to mark Llorente at the back post.
He controls it beautifully on the volley and fire past Ramsdale, and the Leeds fans go wild, they couldn’t, could they?
15:22 , Jack Rathborn
Big chance for Martinelli, the ball flicks up and he's suddenly in on goal, but he can't control it and the shot is too high.
Llorente rushed out and couldn’t clear with Nketiah sniffing around the ball.

15:01 , Jack Rathborn
Jamie Carragher has not held back discussing Luke Ayling’s red card against Arsenal.
“I love Luke Ayling as a player,” said the Sky Sports pundit. “But what an idiot, a lack of professionalism for his teammates and what it could mean for them moving forward.
“It's a disgusting tackle. It's obviously a red card. To do that, putting your team down to 10 men and missing three games, that might be the last game he plays in the Premier League.”

It’s a horror tackle from Ayling!
Only a yellow, he dives in studs up, Martinelli wiped out.
VAR asks Chris Kavanagh to check, that means one thing!
Yes, it’s a red for Ayling, Raphinha treading a fine line too. He's furious with the referee and has to be dragged away by his teammates.

It’s quietened down since the second, but Arsenal very much taking the fizz out of this and playing patiently out of the back.
This game could be done by half-time, but a maturity to this Arsenal side now creeping in perhaps.
Martinelli happy to drag his man back into his own half to keep possession.
But suddenly Arsenal in again! Cedric chips it over the top to Saka, he cuts it back to Odegaard, who executes a sensational piece of skill to open the space inside the box.

David Seaman has praised Aaron Ramsdale for taking his chance at Arsenal with both hands as he continues to tutor the England goalkeeper.
Ramsdale has established himself as first choice between the posts at the Emirates Stadium but, despite Seaman being a big fan, he is not afraid to dish out the tough love.
Signed from Sheffield United last summer for a reported £24million, plenty of eyebrows were raised as the Gunners brought in a goalkeeper with consecutive Premier League relegations on his CV.

Arsenal vs Leeds team news

Ben White was absent for Arsenal’s win at West Ham due to a hamstring issue, and there is a good chance that the centre back will miss out again here. Takehiro Tomiyasu went off with cramp in that game against the Hammers – his first start in four months – but should be okay to line up in the first XI today. Meanwhile, Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey remain sidelined.
For Leeds, Stuart Dallas is out for the long term after sustaining a femoral fracture against Manchester City. Also absent from Marsch’s side will be Adam Forshaw, Crysencio Summerville and Liam Cooper, while Patrick Bamford is not expected to return just yet.
