Manchester man arrested after allegedly going 132 mph on Route 2 in Colchester

A Manchester man faces multiple charges after a state trooper clocked his vehicle going over 130 mph on Route 2 in Colchester on Monday morning, according to the Connecticut State Police.

A trooper was doing speed enforcement on Route 2 near Exit 17 in Colchester before 10:30 a.m. Monday when they clocked a man driving a Range Rover at 132 mph in a 65 mph zone. After the trooper turned on their lights and siren to signal the vehicle, the Range Rover exited the highway and nearly struck a Connecticut Department of Transportation worker, state police said.

The trooper allegedly witnessed the vehicle pass other cars in a “No Passing” zone on Old Hartford Road before losing sight of the car, state police said.

Troopers checked the area and found the Range Rover parked in a garage at a business on Old Colchester Road. The trooper located the driver, who admitted to parking near the business in an attempt to avoid police despite being asked to leave by employees of the business.

The driver, identified as 23-year-old Faizal Fasasi of Manchester, was taken into custody without incident and charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, interfering with an officer, first-degree criminal trespassing, disobeying the signal of a police officer in a construction zone, reckless operation in a construction zone, endangerment of a highway worker, improper passing, passing in a no passing zone, failure to obey a stop sign and no insurance in a construction zone.

He was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond and was transferred to Corrigan-Radowski Correctional Center. He is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on Tuesday.
