Manchester Memorial Day parade canceled due to virus

May 4—MANCHESTER — The town's Memorial Day Parade and program at Center Memorial Park have been canceled due to the novel coronavirus.

Town officials recently announced the cancellation of the event, which was scheduled for May 31. The decision was made in consultation with the general manager, the Board of Directors, the Department of Health, and the Manchester Permanent Memorial Day Committee,

"We will never forget the men and women in uniform, who have faced the ultimate sacrifice for their country, and we encourage all residents to spend time this Memorial Day 2021 to remember our fallen men and women in your own personal way," members of the committee wrote in the announcement of the cancellation.

While the parade and program in Center Memorial Park are canceled, a service will be held at South Methodist Church 1226, Main St., with the massing of the colors at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, May 30.

The public is invited. Masks will be required.
