Manchester reopens Crystal Lake beach as bacterial levels drop

Aug. 5—Crystal Lake Beach, the only public beach in Manchester, reopened Friday, when bacterial counts dropped just below the state-mandated safety level.

City health officials, who closed the beach from Monday through Thursday, announced that it was reopened on Friday. The E. coli level taken and analyzed on Thursday was 84 per milliliter. The maximum level is 88.

The 84 level was detected on the lake's right side. The level on the lake's left side was 7. Piscataquog River at Bass Island still remains high at 365 per mililiter.
