Manchester resident killed in house fire in Cedar Glen West

MANCHESTER — A resident of the Cedar Glen West neighborhood in Manchester was killed Sunday night in a home fire on Heron Street, township police said.

Residents of the quadplex-style home and surrounding residents were evacuated around 7 p.m. Officers attempted to enter the home when a family member told them a relative was still inside, but the structure was fully engulfed in flames, police said.

Manchester Police did not immediately release the resident's name, pending notification of the family.

Three police officers and a family member were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, police said.

Manchester Township Police Detective Adam Emmons and Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Detective John Doran are investigating, along with the Ocean County Fire Marshal. The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit and the Ocean County Medical Examiner are also assisting, Manchester Police said.

Firefighters from Manchester, Whiting, Ridgeway, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, Lakehurst Borough, Toms River and the Cassville section of Jackson also responded to the scene, police said. Manchester Emergency Medical Service also responded to evaluate residents and first responders for smoke inhalation, police said.
