Manchester tournament to raise funds for Bennet statue

May 12—MANCHESTER — The Sculpture Project will hold a mini-golf tournament next month to raise money for a life-size bronze statue of Elisabeth M. Bennet that will be installed on the lawn of Bennet Academy in June 2023.

The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, June 11, at Mar-Lea Miniature Golf, 244 Boston Turnpike, Bolton, with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. and check-in at 9 a.m.

After play is over all ticket holders will receive a complimentary lunch at Bobby T's Hot Dog Cart on the Mar-Lea grounds.

The cost is $25 for adults and children ages 14 and over. Children 13 and under are $10 and must be accompanied on the course by an adult. Tickets may be purchased in advance by contacting Frank Parseliti, mini-golf tournament chair, at 860 833-8312 or fparseliti@gmail.com

Bennet's statute is the second in the series of three life-size bronze sculptures planned by the Sculpture Project to honor Manchester citizens who made extraordinary contributions in their fields and to the Manchester community.

The first statue — of Olympic medalist and Manchester Road Race icon Joe McCluskey — was installed along the East Coast Greenway in November 2019.

Fundraising for Bennet's statue began in January 2020 and over half the needed funds of $109,061 have been raised.

The final statue will be that of author Emily Cheney Neville. It will be placed on the grounds of the Mary Cheney Library.

Michael Keropian, an artist with roots in Manchester, was chosen as the sculptor.
