Manchin’s wife hospitalized after car accident

Gayle Manchin, the wife of Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), was admitted to a hospital in Alabama on Tuesday after being involved in a car accident, the senator’s office announced.

According to Sen. Manchin’s office, his wife and a colleague, Guy Land, were involved in an accident in Birmingham while en route to an event for the Appalachian Regional Commission. Both are in stable condition.

“Both were admitted to UAB Hospital and are receiving excellent care. She remains in stable condition but will stay there for a couple of days for precautionary measures,” Sen. Manchin said in a statement.

“We want to thank the first responders who answered the call and were first on-site to provide assistance and support,” he added.

Gayle Manchin serves as a federal co-chair of the commission. She has been in the role since 2021, after President Biden nominated her.
