Mancini Awards winners announced; Riverside High tops among Beaver County schools

MIDLAND – Winners of the Henry Mancini Awards were announced Sunday at the annual event celebrating outstanding student achievement in high school musical theatre in Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.

Winners were:

Best Actor: Jacob Storey in Riverside High School’s, “Damn Yankees.”

Best Actress: Paulina Bradley in North Catholic High School’s, “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella."

Best Supporting Actor: Meach Taylor in Beaver Falls High School’s, “Footloose."

Best Supporting Actress: Morgan Myers in Riverside High School’s, “Damn Yankees."

Best Ensemble: Freeport High School, “No, No, Nanette.”

Best Choreography: Freeport.

Best Crew Technical Execution: New Castle High School, “Disney’s The Little Mermaid."

Best Direction: Freeport.

Best Student Orchestra: Knoch High School, “Something Rotten."

Best Scenic Design (Budget 1): Freeport.

Best Scenic Design (Budget 2): Riverside.

Scenic Design (Budget 3): New Castle.

Best Costume Design (Budget 1): Freeport.

Best Costume Design (Budget 2): Riverside.

Best Costume Design (Budget 3): New Castle.

Best Lighting Design (Budget 1): Western Beaver High School, “The Wizard of Oz."

Best Lighting Design (Budget 2): North Catholic.

Best Lighting Design (Budget 3): New Castle.

Best Musical (Budget 1): Freeport.

Best Musical (Budget 2): Riverside.

Best Musical (Budget 3): Knoch.

A program that's taken place at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center in Midland since 2014, all schools in the quad-county region were invited to participate, with 16 schools joining this year.

Those schools were Ambridge Area High School, Beaver County Christian School, Big Beaver Falls Area High School, Central Valley High School, Freedom Area High School, Freeport Senior High School, Hopewell High School, Knoch High School, Mars Area High School, New Brighton High School, New Castle High School, North Catholic High School, Riverside High School, Slippery Rock High School, South Side High School and Western Beaver Jr./Sr. High School.

Freeport won the most Mancini Awards, six, followed by Riverside with five.

As the Best Actor and Best Actress recipients, Storey, of Riverside, and Bradley, of North Catholic, now advance to the Jimmy Awards in New York City for a nine-day experience including private coaching, master classes, and rehearsals with theater professionals. Their journey concludes with a production on stage at Broadway’s Minskoff Theater, home of Disney’s "The Lion King," with a panel of industry experts selecting exceptional students for The Jimmy for Best Performance by an Actress and Actor.
