The Mandalorian star Gina Carano addresses social media backlash: ‘I bring the fire out in people’

The Mandalorian’s Gina Carano has responded to the backlash she received after posting a series of controversial tweets.

The hashtag #FireGinaCarano was trending on social media late last year after the actor shared anti-mask tweets, as well as posts in apparent support of Donald Trump’s unsubstantiated claims about voter fraud. She was also accused of “mocking trans people”.

Carano – who plays the mercenary ex-Shock Trooper Cara Dune on the Disney+ Star Wars spin-off – has since addressed the criticism, stating: “I bring the fire out in people.”

Although the 38-year-old did not specifically mention the calls to have her fired from The Mandalorian, the actor told Drunk 3P0: “I’m going to stick around and if my presence bothers you, OK, but also a lot of people are not bothered by my Twitter presence or my social media presence. So I focus more on those people.

“I bring the fire out in people. I’m not sure why.”

Carano has previously defended herself against critics who accused her of “mocking trans people”. She addressed the backlash in a post that reads: “They’re mad cuz I won’t put pronouns in my bio to show my support for trans lives. After months of harassing me in every way. I decided to put 3 VERY controversial words in my bio.. beep/bop/boop.”

“I’m not against trans lives at all. They need to find less abusive representation,” she added.

Fans of Carano defended the actor from critics using the hashtag #StandWithGinaCarano.

The actor – who has previously starred in Deadpool and Fast & Furious 6 – most recently starred in the second season of The Mandalorian, which debuted on Disney+ in October last year.
