Iryna Vereshchuk, the Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, predicts that the requirement to evacuate will spread from Donetsk Oblast to other regions of Ukraine.

Quote: "Mandatory evacuation from Donetsk Oblast is being carried out for the first time, and so far it is the only one. But our forecasts and our analysis indicate that it will happen in other regions as well. We are now seeing the situation deteriorate. And when the autumn-winter heating period begins, it will definitely get worse [the situation - ed.], and the provision of heat through the heating networks will be significantly more complicated."

Details: According to Vereshchuk, thermal power facilities could be targets for Russian attacks. In particular, parts of the cities and towns in Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Kharkiv oblasts may be left without heating or electricity.

Background:

  •     At the end of July, the government introduced the mandatory evacuation of residents of unoccupied areas of Donetsk Oblast before the start of the heating season.

  •     Serhii Haidai, the head of the Luhansk Oblast Military Administration, said that there is no water or electricity in occupied Sievierodonetsk, which will make it impossible to spend the winter there.

  •     Haidai also said that the authorities cannot evacuate people from Luhansk Oblast: they can only leave on their own.
