Thirteen people were wounded early Sunday during a gunfight between groups that involved multiple shooters on the riverfront in Peoria, Illinois, police said.

Police Department spokesperson Amy Dotson said none of the injuries was life-threatening. Seven of the wounded were women.

Dotson said police found a crowd of nearly 200 when responding to a call at 4:41 a.m., and a large fight had broken out before the shooting.

"This incident occurred as a result of a dispute among groups of people gathered at the riverfront," police said in a statement posted on Facebook.

Two of the victims were transported by an ambulance to an area hospital; the others were transported by private vehicle, Dotson said. Two people were in serious condition with gunshot wounds to the neck, Dotson said.

Asked whether the groups involved in the dispute were gangs, Dotson said it was “groups of people fighting.”

No arrests were made, and the investigation continues, she said.

Peoria, a city of more than 110,000 on the Illinois River, is about 150 miles southwest of Chicago. The Peoria riverfront features art galleries, music venues, specialty shops and restaurants.
