Manitoba premier to lunch at restaurant owned by gay couple

WINNIPEG - Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger is showing support for the owners of a restaurant that is closing down because of anti-gay comments.

Selinger took to Twitter to say that he plans to have lunch next week at the Pots N Hands restaurant in Morris, south of Winnipeg.

Selinger congratulated the mayor of Morris for denouncing anti-gay slurs that have been aimed at the gay couple that owns the restaurant.

The premier says he wants to send a message that Manitoba is an inclusive province that respects human rights.

The owners plan to close the restaurant on April 13.

They say they can no longer take verbal homophobic attacks from some residents.

Selinger was already scheduled to be in Morris and the surrounding area next week to check on flood preparations along the Red River.
