MANITOWOC - Manitowoc County Circuit Court judges are warning the public that a jury scam has been reported.

“The courts want the public prepared if they would be contacted,” the judges said in a news release Feb. 2. “The FBI and Federal Court System have issued nationwide alerts in the past on their websites warning consumers about this fraud.”

According to the release, the caller in the scam claims to be a jury coordinator. If the person called protests and tells them they did not receive a jury summons, the scammer asks the person for their Social Security number and date of birth so the information can be verified and says they will cancel the arrest warrant.

“DO NOT GIVE OUT THIS TYPE OF INFORMATION,” the news release said. “The jury clerk from the Clerk of Circuit Court’s Office in Manitowoc County will NEVER ask you for this type of information over the telephone.

“Again, DO NOT GIVE OUT PERSONAL INFORMATION,” the release said. “Hang up and call the Manitowoc County Clerk of Court jury clerk to verify if you have been summoned to serve as a juror for Manitowoc County.”

The Clerk of Circuit Court’s Office can be reached at 920-683-4025.
