Manitowoc Lincoln revives Jens Jensen council ring for its centennial, plus more news in weekly dose
MANITOWOC - Manitowoc Lincoln High School Class of 1972 held a dedication ceremony for the Centennial Council Ring on Aug. 27. The ring is in front of the school’s natatorium.
The class raised close to $46,000 to complete the gift in commemoration of its 50th class reunion and the 100th anniversary of the high school.
The brick seating structure offers an outdoor gathering space for students that honors Lincoln High School’s history.
The original council ring was also in front of the school natatorium but was removed when it fell into disrepair. Many alumni remember sitting and waiting for the pool to open and some teachers holding classes there. It was designed by landscape architect Jens Jensen, who also designed the Lincoln High School campus.
The Class of 1972 Gift Committee also had three red flowering crab trees planted to frame the seating.

► Historic Washington House Museum & Visitor Center extends season to Nov. 23: Two Rivers Historical Society has announced newly extended operating hours for the Historic Washington House Museum & Visitor Center, 1622 Jefferson St., Two Rivers.
The Museum & Visitor Center is now open to the public from noon until 5 p.m. Wednesdays-Sundays through Nov. 23, marking a significant extension to the former summer and fall hours at the museum.
Admission remains free, although donations are appreciated. The Washington House’s extended hours include Berner’s Ice Cream Parlor, commemorating the invention of the ice cream sundae in 1881, for which Two Rivers is renowned. At the parlor, customers can enjoy Wisconsin-made ice cream in the form of a sundae, dish or cone — before browsing several museum rooms plus the second-floor ballroom, which features rare murals.
The TRHS includes the Washington House Museum & Visitor Center, the Historic Farm Museum and the Lester W. Bentley Art Collection. People can learn how to volunteer and find more information at tworivers-history.org.
► Local theater group to stage 'Cabaret': The Forst Inn Arts Collective opens “Cabaret” Sept. 9 and performs through Oct. 2.
Performances are evenings on Sept. 9, 10, 16, 23 and 30, with 2 p.m. matinees on Sept. 11 and Oct. 2 and 4 p.m. twilight performances on Sept. 17 and 24.
Music is provided in the pub during the hour before the show by Meet the Seavers.
A description of the show reads: “In a Berlin nightclub, as the 1920s draw to a close, a garish Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget all their troubles at the Cabaret. With the Emcee’s bawdy songs as wry commentary, ‘Cabaret’ explores the dark, heady and tumultuous life of Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. Cliff, a young American writer newly arrived in Berlin, is immediately taken with English singer Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boarding house, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a mild-mannered fruit seller who happens to be Jewish.”
The musical features Forst Inn favorites Tessa Jindra (Fraulein Kost) and Phillip Jindra (Clifford Bradshaw) along with newcomers Jessica Marie Green (Emcee) and Sophia Bartels (Sally Bowles).
New and returning performers include David Bouffard (Herr Schultz), Jessica Iannitello (Rosie), Brad Leonhardt (Ernst Ludwig), Logan Lopez (Bobby), Melissa MacDonald (Fraulein Schneider), Shannon Paige (Lulu), Katie Shimulunas (Fritzie), Brittieny Simmer (Victor) and Emily Tyeptanar (Helga) in the ensemble.
The show is directed by Lisa Heili with music direction by David Bowman (also playing the role of Max), choreography by Katie Shimulunas, lighting by Derek Frenz, sound by Jeff LaFond and stage management by Missy Wendorf.

► Barn Dance set for Sept. 17: Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership’s 11th annual Barn Dance is set for Sept. 17 at Saxon Homestead Farm, 15621 S. Union Road, Cleveland.
The event offers a chance for LNRP partners, stakeholders and community residents to gather and celebrate water and land conservation initiatives. It also serves as a fundraiser for LNRP and will mark the group’s 20th anniversary.
The event starts at 5:30 p.m. An assortment of appetizers will be provided by David Hansmann from Generations of Plymouth and Tom Tittl of Wild Wood Pizza. Beer, wine, soda and water will be available. A variety of games, a silent auction and other activities are planned.
After a short program showcasing some of the recent successes of LNRP and its partner groups, attendees will be able to kick up their heels to the sounds of the Bazooka Joe band.
Advanced purchase of tickets is encouraged, as the barn’s capacity is limited. Admission is $35 per person in advance or $40 at the door, if available. All proceeds benefit LNRP, which serves as the parent organization of 16 watershed groups, regional networks and community partners.

► Parade of Homes is Sept. 8-10: Manitowoc County Home Builders Association’s annual Parade of Homes will run Sept. 8-10.
The following seven new and remodeled homes from five of Manitowoc County’s top home builders will be featured during the parade:
11211 Lake Drive, Two Rivers, featuring the work of Jim Reif Builders;
3012 Sandy Ridge Drive, Two Rivers, featuring the work of Certified Builders;
1127 Harbor St., Two Rivers, featuring the work of Jim Reif Builders;
706 York St., Unit 5, Manitowoc, featuring the work of Mike Howe Builders;
220 N. Seventh St., Unit 3, Manitowoc, featuring the work of Mike Howe Builders;
1636 S. Ninth St., Manitowoc, featuring the work of Bartow Builders; and
1240 Lake Cato Drive, Reedsville, featuring the work of Pekarske Builders.
The seven parade homes will showcase some of the newest home trends including open-concept ranches, full second-level addition, mudrooms, outdoor living spaces, wood flooring and custom-tiled showers.
The homes offer a combination of two-story, ranches and condos revived from an old industrial building, allowing visitors to see a variety of home designs.
Those interested in building or buying a new home, remodeling or gathering ideas for home improvement projects can interact with the area’s top experts in the field.
Tickets for the Parade of Homes will allow entry into each of the seven homes one time. They are available at parade entrances for $10 each or advance tickets are $8 and are available at Bank First (in Manitowoc and Two Rivers), Shipbuilders Credit Union (in Manitowoc and Mishicot), Braun Building Center, Precision Floors & Décor and the Manitowoc County Home Builders Association office.
