MANITOWOC - The holiday season is upon us and this week brings the return of the Lakeshore Holiday Parade on Thanksgiving Eve Nov. 23.

While not until next week Wednesday, Nov. 23, it’s big enough that we have to mention it this week so you can save the date!

Held in downtown Manitowoc on Washington and Eighth streets the night before Thanksgiving starting at 6:30 p.m., the Lakeshore Holiday Parade is an annual tradition for Manitowoc and surrounding communities and the perfect way to kick off the holiday season.

Floats, marching bands, trucks and walkers will follow a route heading east at South 12th Street and Washington Street to South Eighth Street, then head north to Park Street.

A “Sensory Sensitive Zone,” where there will be no lights, loud music or sirens, will be implemented from South 12th to South 10th streets on Washington Street.

A Santa reception will be held at Rahr-West Art Museum, 610 N. Eighth St., from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. before the parade and then also after the parade finishes. The event is free and kids can meet with Santa, enjoy treats and take in the beauty of the art museum. This will also serve as the opening day for the museum's new elevator.

Also the night of the parade, Visit Manitowoc’s new Visitor Information Center will open for the first time inside 824 S. Eighth St.

Visit www.manitowoc.org/lakeshoreholidayparade for more details about the parade.
