Man's body found near Barker's Island Marina

Aug. 31—SUPERIOR — A Minnesota man's body was found floating near a slip at the Barker's Island Marina on Tuesday, Aug. 30, according to a Douglas County Sheriff's Office report.

Superior Fire Department personnel who responded estimated Samuel Clark, 60, of Le Sueur, Minnesota, had been in the water for approximately 12 hours. He was found a few slips away from his docked sailboat, fully clothed but missing a shoe. There did not appear to be any physical signs of foul play, according to the report by deputy Elijha Newton.

When contacted, Clark's wife reported that he called her at 7:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, but did not speak.

The man who found Clark's body told Newton he arrived at the marina to conduct maintenance on his boat when he saw a red jacket floating in the water. He went to his boat to grab a metal pole to remove the jacket, then realized that the jacket was a human body. He notified marina management, who called 911.

An autopsy was expected to be conducted Thursday, Sept. 1.
