Man's body found near Miller farm. Authorities say death likely a homicide

After discovering the body of a 40-year-old man on Tuesday near a Miller farm, authorities are treating the death as a homicide.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office identified the dead man on Friday as Greenfield native Larry E. Rysted, whose social media page notes that he had recently lived in Springfield. An autopsy indicated he was likely killed by another person, but no other details were provided.

The sheriff's office said it received a call on Tuesday about a group of workers who were picking up rocks at a local farm who found what appeared to be a body in a large brush patch.

"The remains located were badly decomposed and had possibly been in the area for several weeks," the sheriff's office said in a press release.

The multi-agency investigation has also includes the Aurora/Marionville Police Department, Monett Police Department, Missouri Department of Conservation, and officers from the Quapaw Nation in Oklahoma.
