Mansfield Mask Mandate Lifted As COVID Numbers Decrease
MANSFIELD, MA — Mansfield's indoor mask mandate will be lifted starting Monday, Feb. 7, 2022, over three weeks earlier than the original date, town officials said.
But don't get rid of your masks yet - they'll still be required in municipal buildings like the town hall, schools, and the Mansfield Public Library.
In January, the Mansfield Board of Health voted 3-2 to put a mask mandate in play to combat rising COVID cases in Mansfield and across Massachusetts.
Mansfield followed many other towns across the Bay State who implemented an emergency order as Omicron cases filled hospitals and left thousands sick. Mansfield's order required everyone over the age of two to wear a mask at all indoor places.
Mansfield's mask order was introduced on Jan. 12 and was set to last until at least Feb. 28, with plans of reviewing and revising the mandate in early February.
In the town's virtual meeting with the Board of Health on Feb. 3, a unanimous decision to rescind the order was reached in response to falling COVID case numbers.
"I think it's time to move on from having this mandate," WickedLocal reported BOH member Graham Wilson saying.
Despite the mandate being lifted, officials are still encouraging people to wear masks in public spaces.
