With 2023 behind us, we reached out to Naples PD to get a breakdown of its yearly statistics, including arrests, auto burglaries, new officers, and more.

Here's what we know:

How many arrests did Naples PD make in 2023?

Naples PD arrested 401 people in 2023. Of those, 387 were specific case arrests.

The police arrested more people than in 2022, when the department made 351 arrests ― 329 were case arrests.

The top three arrest offenses in 2023 were:

  • Driving with a suspended, canceled, revoked, or no driver's license.

  • Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

  • Possession of 20 grams or less of cannabis.

How many vehicle break-ins happened in 2023?

Naples PD reported 42 auto burglaries, meaning someone broke into a vehicle and stole belongings from it. The number is down from 2022, when there were 44 burglaries.

Naples PD responded to 24 auto thefts, meaning the vehicle was stolen. More cars were stolen in 2022, with the department reporting 32 thefts.

How many people accidentally called 911?

Pocket dials happen more often than you'd think.

In 2023 the department received 7,719 accidental calls, up from 2022's 6,269 accidental calls.

How many red light-runners received a citation?

In 2023, Naples PD issued 73 red light violation citations, five more than 2022's total of 68.

How did the department's staffing change?

Naples PD brought on 20 new police officers in 2023, bringing the total number of officers to 72.

The department added three more budgeted employees to its staff, going from 106 to 109.

Naples PD also named a new police chief: Ciro Dominguez. Naples City Manager Jay Boodheshwar selected Dominguez as the new police chief in September after a months-long process.

As a teenager, Dominguez attended Naples High School before enrolling at Edison College, now known as Florida SouthWestern State College. After completing his education, Dominguez worked at Naples PD for 10 years before moving out of the city.

Now he's back and excited to work with the department that started his career.

"It's the capstone of my career to be able to come back and to really affect the agency that gave me my start," Dominguez said. "And be able to share with the men and women of that department what I've learned through my travels and my experiences in the city I grew up in."

How did the Naples PD budget change?

The department's budget grew by over $1 million dollars in 2023, going from $17,136,515 to $18,155,736.

The budget is used to pay employees and officers, purchase training materials, get new vehicles, and more.

What else did Naples PD accomplish in 2023?

  • Three life-saving Narcan uses.

  • Returned to full staffing levels despite national trend in law enforcement vacancies.

  • Worked toward improving community engagement with new programs.

  • Worked toward improving traffic safety by addressing specific problem areas.

  • Used social media to connect with the community and give out real-time updates on emergencies.

  • As of December 2023, 20% of the department's police officers were female, which is higher than the national average of 14.2%.
