How many emergency calls are made in Baton Rouge a day?

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Louisiana has a high amount of 911 calls, a study found.

Personal injury attorneys at injuredinflorida.com looked at the National 911 Program for the number of 911 calls in each state from 2019 to 2021. They calculated the average rate per 1,000 people annually.

They found that Louisiana has an average of about 860 emergency 911 calls per 1,000 people.

Brad Harris with Baton Rouge Emergency Medical Services said 68,688 run reports were made in 2023.

“But that does not factor in the number of calls we actually responded to where there was no patient,” Harris said.

A record number of Americans can’t afford their rent

Harris said the average number of emergency calls a day is 180.

“General illness is always our top call type. It’s the catch-all for anyone without a specific complaint,” Harris said.

The study ranked Louisiana seventh in the Top 10 states with the most 911 calls. Other southern states in the Top 10 were Georgia with 1,146 calls and South Carolina with 839 emergency calls.
