How Many Enegex Limited (ASX:ENX) Shares Did Insiders Buy, In The Last Year?

In this article:

We often see insiders buying up shares in companies that perform well over the long term. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Enegex Limited (ASX:ENX).

What Is Insider Buying?

It's quite normal to see company insiders, such as board members, trading in company stock, from time to time. However, such insiders must disclose their trading activities, and not trade on inside information.

We would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing. But equally, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether. For example, a Columbia University study found that 'insiders are more likely to engage in open market purchases of their own company’s stock when the firm is about to reveal new agreements with customers and suppliers'.

Enegex Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Graeme Kirke for AU$72k worth of shares, at about AU$0.018 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of AU$0.014. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. It is encouraging to see an insider paid above the current price for shares, as it suggests they saw value, even at higher levels. Graeme Kirke was the only individual insider to buy shares in the last twelve months.

Does Enegex Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. It's great to see that Enegex insiders own 45% of the company, worth about AU$510k. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.

So What Do The Enegex Insider Transactions Indicate?

It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Enegex shares in the last quarter. On a brighter note, the transactions over the last year are encouraging.
