EDISON, NJ — It's already started to snow in New Jersey, but forecasters expect much more to come Friday night into Saturday.

Edison and Metuchen could be in for a lot of snow. The National Weather Service placed the Township and Borough under a winter storm warning from Friday 7 p.m. to Saturday 7 p.m. The agency expects accumulating snow to begin Friday evening, becoming heavy at times through Saturday morning and diminishing that afternoon.

"This is a significant storm and preparations need to be taken now," Edison police said. "We expect to be impacted by significant snowfall, and the possibility of strong, damaging winds."

All Travel should be avoided if not necessary. Vehicles parked on the roadways impede the plows from clearing the roads. Residents are to remove all parked vehicles from roads by 7 p.m. Friday.

State offices will also close at 3 p.m. ahead of the storm.

"We're certainly hoping for the best, but we are, without question, preparing for the worst," Murphy said.

"Our advice to everyone is to be prepared to hunker down once you get home this afternoon and stay home. Stay home tonight and stay home tomorrow. Whatever you may need to get through a snow day, get it on your way home today so you do not have to venture out."
