Marathon County inspections: 2 restaurants see double-digit violations but improve on reinspection

The following are the latest results of Marathon County Health Department inspections on licensed food establishments and other types of businesses, which the Wausau Daily Herald reports monthly.

Athens

  • Landmark Bar, 117 Alfred St.: June 1: One violation: A few missing and broken tiles in storage and kitchen area.

  • The Old Reliable Truck, 242768 Schoolhouse Lane: June 24: No violations.

  • Pagel's Pub and Grub, 139302 Marathon County L: June 13: Two violations: Test strips not available for checking sanitizer concentration in dish machine; sandwich prep table not equipped with a permanently attached thermometer (corrected during inspection).

  • Wagner's Dairy Treat, 301 Alfred St.: June 28: One violation: Women's bathroom toilet seat missing hinge covers and does not fit shape of toilet.

Colby

  • Subway, 1210 N. Division St.: June 29: No violations.

Marathon

  • Arrow Tap, 318 Main St.: June 8: One violation: Plastic cups sitting on counter under bar top not properly protected.

Marshfield

  • Belvedere Supper Club, 203630 State 97: June 22: No violations.

Mosinee

  • Ashley Tavern & Ballroom, 201100 Marathon County X: June 6: Two violations: Ice scoop in ice machine laying with handle touching ice; chlorine test kit not available for checking sanitizer concentration.

  • Halder Bridge Bar, 133071 Marathon County C: June 1: No violations.

  • Mosinee Brewing Co., 401 Fourth St.: May 30: Two violations: No irreversible registering thermometer for ware washing machine; ice machine needs more frequent cleaning.

  • Ocean Blue, 1014 Western Ave.: June 14: No violations.

  • Pinewood Supper Club, 147801 Moon Lake Drive: June 6: Two violations: Dressings and sauces made in house not marked with a discard date; consumer advisory missing the disclosure statement.

  • Sparky's Pub, 206469 Green Forest Lane: June 1: No violations.

  • 19th Hole Tavern, 1821 Grand Ave.: Jun 7: Three violations: Inside ice machine visibly dirty; pizza trays dirty; cavity of door of microwave dirty.

  • Cliffhangers, 425 Grand Ave.: June 7: No violations.

  • Log Cabin, 1522 Metro Drive: June 26: No violations.

  • Rodzina Restaurant, 508 Grand Ave.: June 15: Four violations: Reduced oxygen packaging not used in approved way; no documentation of an approved variance for reduced oxygen packaging of meats; consumer advisory missing disclosure statement; retail food establishment has no approved variance for implemented process.

  • Sam's Pizza of Wausau, 5811 Business 51: June 29: One violation: Butter blend with garlic stored at room temperature, but box directions indicate it needs refrigeration.

  • Tri City Restaurant, 525 Grand Ave.: June 27: Six violations: Foods in large prep table not at proper temperature (foods moved to cooler); person in charge not monitoring food temperatures during hot and cold holding; slicer dirty (corrected during inspection); some items unwrapped or uncovered in walk-in cooler (corrected during inspection); sour cream container reused as storage container; mop heads left wet in mop buckets.

Stratford

  • Ivan Borntreger, 122450 Big Rapids Road: June 22: No violations.

Wausau

  • 319 Bistro, 319 Fourth St.: June 14: No violations.

  • Bob and Randy's Bar, 1515 N. Sixth St.: June 15: Three violations: Ice shield inside ice machine dirty and bolts rusting; ice caddies stored on top of ice machine not inverted; no irreversible registering thermometer for measuring surface temperatures in ware washing machine.

  • Char Grillhouse, 201 Jefferson St.: June 23: Three violations: Condiment cooler in Lincoln Room not at proper temperature (corrected during inspection); bulk food container not labeled; no irreversible registering thermometer for measuring surface temperatures in ware washing machine.

  • Day's Bowl-A-Dome, 1715 Stewart Ave.: June 22: 11 violations: No sanitizer in kitchen for sanitizing dishes (Corrected during inspection); person in charge not providing training on proper sanitization methods for vegetable washing; salad bar items in walk-in cooler not date marked; no consumer advisory provided; working containers of sanitizer in bar not labeled with common name of product; food containers in walk-in cooler not labeled with name of contents; wiping cloth stored on prep table cutting board in kitchen; potatoes put directly into washing compartment of three-compartment sink for washing; painted surface on the wooded shelves used for storage in kitchen has worn off and is no longer easily cleanable; wire racks above sinks in kitchen had accumulation of grease on bottom; plastic cups stored behind bar not properly protected.   • Dunkin and Baskin Robbins, 110 W. Bridge St.: June 23: Four violations: Mop sink does not have backflow prevention attached to faucet; working containers not labeled with common name of contents; bottom of tap cooler has large amount of spillage accumulated on bottom; floor under dry storage racks and under working areas have accumulated debris.

  • Hilton Garden Inn Wausau, 151401 Marathon County NN: June 1: Two violations: Tongs stored in handwashing sink on front line (corrected during inspection); wiping cloth stored on the workstation counter.

  • Homestead, 162765 State 52: June 28: Eight violations: Dressings in dorm-style refrigerator not at proper temperature; person in charge not monitoring food temperatures during cold holding; coleslaw in walk-in cooler not date marked; exterior of pickle pail in walk-in cooler dirty; dorm-style refrigerator not American Standards Institute certified or approved by department; freezer by ice machine dirty and has frost; cavity of door seals of microwave dirty; floors dirty.

  • Hutch's, 4411 Stewart Ave.: June 22: Two violations: Sample cans of beer in ice bin; women's bathroom not provided with covered garbage can.

  • Jim's Corner Pub, 1244 S. Ninth Ave.: June 15: Two violations: No irreversible registering thermometer in ware washing machine; single-use articles stored on floor in kitchen.

  • Matt's 101 Pub, 101 N. Third Ave.: June 15: Two violations: Ice scoop stored with handle of scoop touching ice; no irreversible registering thermometer in ware washing machine.

  • Milwaukee Burger Co., 2200 Stewart Ave.: June 26: Five violations: Sauce not reheated properly (corrected during inspection); items in west prep table not at proper temperature; person in charge needs to train staff in proper cooling procedures; flour bin not labeled and missing scoops; chicken noodle soup cooling in cooler with lid on (corrected during inspection).

  • The Mint Cafe, 422 N. Third: June 14: Two violations: Chicken and roast beef in cooler not cooled properly (corrected during inspection); products pulled from freezer and thawing in walk-in not re-dated.

  • Mitch's Texas Tacos-Mobile Restaurant, 2408 Lily Lane: June 15: One violation: Certified food protection manager's certificate expired.

  • North Central Health Care Facility: June 6: Three violations: Employee dipped hands into sanitizer in dish sink instead of washing them in approved handwashing sink; sandwiches and salads offered for retail sale missing the ingredient statements; containers that previously held sour cream, yogurt and cottage cheese from original manufacturer being washed, rinsed, sanitized and used to store food.

  • Polack Inn, 1206 Third St.: June 30, Two violations: Bottom of kitchen refrigerator and bottom racks rusting and not easily cleanable; floor by ice machine missing tiles and ceramic tiles broken/missing at entrance behind bar.

  • Polito's Pizza, 311 N. Third St.: June 15: One violation: Condiment cups not date marked.

  • Qdoba Mexican Grill, 2205 Stewart Ave., Suite 400: June 15: Five violations: Lime juice sitting out on food prep table in between uses (corrected during inspection); interior deflector of ice machine dirty; shrimp sauce and spray bottle used for cooking by grill in unlabeled containers; rice bin cover and spray bottle by grill dirty; ware wash sink faucet leaking.

  • Red Apple Social Club, 707 S. Third: June 12: Two violations: Test kit not available for checking sanitizer concentrations; no certified food manager for establishment.

  • Rib Mountain Inn, 227305 Boulder Ridge Circle: June 15: Three violations: Handwashing done in three-compartment dishwashing sinks; working containers of chemical in food storage room not labeled (corrected during inspection); no certified food manager for establishment.

  • Richard's Supper Club, 5305 N. 32nd Ave.: June 6: Six violations: Potato salad and coleslaw in server cooler and buffet line not at proper temperature; sanitizer not used according to label instructions; person in charge not monitoring food temperature during cold holding; server and buffet coolers not sufficient in size to hold foods at proper temperature; interior of ice machine needs cleaning; milkhouse board in walk-in cooler cracked.

  • Shaun's Mirage, 2103 Merrill Ave.: June 27: Two violations: test kit not available for sanitizer concentrations; single-use or single-service articles stored on floor of storage room.

  • Tic Toc Club, 1201 W.   • Todd & Peggy's Whiskey River, 5512 Stewart Ave.: June 20: Seven violations: Employee seen not washing hands before putting on gloves (corrected during inspection); employee handling read-to-eat foods with bare hands (corrected during inspection); raw meats stored over cases of beverages (corrected during inspection); mashed potatoes in walk-in cooler exceeded date mark (corrected during inspection); bleach used for sanitizing dishes is scented; consumer advisory on menu missing; no current certified food manager for establishment.

  • Trapp River Golf Club, 243124 Marathon County WW: June 27: One violation: Handwashing sink used to wash dishes.

  • Wasa Concession Stand, 1000S. 66th Ave.: June 29: No violations.

  • Wausau Woodchucks, 2401 Third St.: June 19 Five violations: No test kit available for monitoring sanitizer concentrations; hot water not working in the Bull Pen Concessions (staff had called Parks Department for repair); several working spray bottles not labeled; boxes of chips stored directly on floor in Terrace Concession Stand; plastic glasses, weigh boats and other single-service items not stored in original container.
