Marathon County inspections: Employee handling food with bare hands, raw meat stored above vegetables

The following are the latest results of Marathon County Health Department inspections on licensed food establishments and other types of businesses, which the Wausau Daily Herald will report monthly.

Athens

  • Cocina On the Square, 121 Alfred St.: May 22. Two violations: Missing thermometer in walk-in cooler; retail food license not posted in conspicuous area.

  • Landmark Bar, 117 Alfred St,, May 24: Five violations: Dishwasher not properly dispensing chlorine to sanitize dishes; cleaned dishes placed next to handwashing sink to dry (corrected during inspection); reach-in refrigerator not at proper temperature; no covered garbage can in women's bathroom; a few missing and broken tiles in storage and kitchen area. Re-inspected June 1: One violation: A few missing and broken tiles in storage and kitchen area.

Colby

  • Subway, 1210 N. Division St.: Re-inspection May 22: Three violations: Meatballs in marinara were not at proper temperature; person in charge not monitoring food temperatures during hot holding; floor tiles at threshold of back receiving door broken, missing and in need of replacement.

Edgar

  • Edgar Lanes, 119 Redwood St.: May 22: No violations.

Eland

  • Knights Bar, 216160 State 49: May 2: One violation: Home kitchen used for conducting food establishment operations.

Marathon

  • 3 Amigos, 668 Maratech Ave.: May 1: Two violations: Squeeze bottles with sauces not labeled with common name of sauces (corrected during inspection); no attached thermometer at cookline meat prep table (corrected during inspection).

  • Pine Valley Golf Course, 229309 N. 136th Ave.: May 31: No violations.

  • Pizza Market, 300 Main St.: May 25: No violations.

Marshfield

  • Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar, 2114 N. Central Ave.: May 3: Three violations: Raw fish and shrimp stored above ready-to-eat food (corrected during inspection); salmon thawed improperly; spray bottles on cook's line not labeled.

  • Baymont Inn & Suites, 2107 N. Central Ave.: May 23: No violations.

  • El Mezcal Mexican Restaurant, 2312 N. Central Ave.: May 23: Four violations: Employee using dump sink as handwashing sink; tongs stored in food in drawer; no splash guard on sides of handwashing sink near soda dispensers; leaking faucet in food prep sink.

  • Subway No. 117, 2001 N. Central Ave.: May 2: Two violations: Non-food contact surfaces of microwave dirty; floor mop improperly stored in slop sink area.

Mosinee

  • Casa Mezcal, 420 Fourth St.: May 5: No violations.

  • Lin's Garden, 117 Main St.: May 5: No violations.

Ringle

  • Klucks Callon Saloon, 6404 County J: May 18: One violation: Retail food safety for small operators certification will expire June 18, if not renewed.

Rothschild

  • Best Western Plus, 803 W. Industrial Park Ave.: May 18: Four violations: Butter patties on counter not at proper temperature; no certified food manager; apples displayed for eating not washed first; paper plates and bowls not stored inverted on breakfast bar (corrected during inspection).

  • Culver's Frozen Custard, 10202 Park Plaza: May 9: No violations.

  • King Buffet, 1035 E. Grand Ave.: May 17: Seven violations: Employee washing hands in unapproved sink; unwrapped and uncovered food in walk-in freezer; containers of dry ingredients and sauces not labeled with common name of food; no air gap at first bay of three-compartment food prep sink; many food bins cracked and broken; coffee and other containers that held commercially prepared food reused for food storage; exterior back door not tight fitting.

  • McDonald's Family Restaurant, 1205 W. Campus Drive: May 18: Four violations: No test kit for monitoring sanitizer concentrations; scoop handle touching ice in ice machine; cabinet under dining room soda fountain dirty; wet mop heads not hung to dry.

  • McDonald's Family Restaurant, 2002 Stewart Ave.: May 23, One violation: Ware-washing machine not dispensing sanitizer at correct concentration.

  • Northcentral Technical College, 1000 W. Campus Drive: May 4: No violations.

  • Stoney Creek Inn, 1100 Imperial Ave.: May 9: Five violations: Refrigerator in breakfast area not at proper temperature; no approved or current food protection manager's certificate posted; waffle tongs stored on counter (corrected during inspection); dirty towel placed on cart near food prep area (corrected during inspection); single-use articles stored on floor in breakfast storage area (corrected during inspection).

  • Subway No. 128, 1133 E. Grand Ave.: May 31: Two violations: Single-use items stored under paper towel dispenser at handwashing sink (corrected during inspection); floor in back room dirty.

Schofield

  • Sconni's Alehouse & Eatery, 1239 Schofield Ave.: May 31: Seven violations: Corn chowder and mushroom soup not cooled properly (corrected during inspection); person in charge not training staff in proper cooling methods; fish not thawed properly (corrected during inspection); not breaking food down into shallow pans or using ice wands for cooling; consumer advisory missing disclosure statement; chlorine test kit not available for checking sanitizer concentrations; no certified food manager for establishment.

Spencer

  • Outer Limits Food, Sports & Spirits, 109300 County C: May 11: No violations.

  • St. John's Lutheran Church, 210167 State 13: May 23: No violations.

Stratford

  • Country Aire, 118600 County P: May 4: Four violations: Not all food protected by sneeze guard on salad bar buffet (corrected during inspection); potato salad exceeded date mark (corrected during inspection); no consumer advisory on menu for food that can be served undercooked; chlorine test kit not available for checking sanitizer concentrations for dish machine.

  • Sammys Shack, 122951 Balsam Road: May 3: No violations

Wausau

  • The Aftershock Bar-N-Grill, 1418 Lenard St.: May 18: Seven violations: Person in charge not monitoring sanitation techniques; condiments portioned into individual cups not date marked; ware-washing machine not properly dispensing sanitizer; no test kit available for monitoring sanitizer concentration; interior of ice machine dirty; ice machine not properly air gapped; no covered garbage can in women's bathroom; Re-inspected May 26: One violation: Ice machine not properly air gapped.

  • Angelo's Pizza, 1206 N. Sixth St.: May 11: One violation: No attached thermometer at small prep table.

  • Back When Café, 606 N. Third St.: May 25: No violations.

  • 2510 Restaurant, 2510 Stewart Ave.: May 2: Four violations: Salmon improperly thawed; test kit not available for checking sanitizer concentration in fruit and vegetable wash; current food protection manager's certificate not posted; retail food permit not posted in conspicuous place.

  • Culver's Frozen Custard, 219 Central Bridge St.: May 10: No violations.

  • Culver's of Rib Mountain, 225577 Lilac Ave.: May 11: No violations.

  • Fat Joe's Pizzeria, 1716 Grand Ave.: May 24: Four violations: No thermometer for monitoring food temperatures; current food protection manager's certificate not posted; no covered garbage can in women's bathroom; retail food permit not posted in conspicuous area.

  • Jalapenos Mexican Restaurante, 300 Third St.: Re-inspection May 23: One violation: Chest freezer door broken and requires weight to keep it shut.

  • JB Viaduct Bar and Grill, 1701 W. McMillan St.: May 2: Five violations: Employee handling ready-to-eat foods with bare hands; inside of ice machine dirty; boxes of potatoes and onions stored on floor in walk-in cooler (corrected during inspection); plastic cup in pickle bucket used to get pickle juice (corrected during inspection); walls of walk-in cooler have small amounts of mold.

  • The Mill Yard, 238532 County W: May 10: No violations.

  • PK Creations, 300 Third St.: No violations.

  • Wausau Elks Club No. 248, 414 Scott St.: May 4: Four violations: No handwashing sink in the new kitchenette for downstairs bar; no certified food manager; small panini press not approved for food service; handwashing sink does not have hands-fee handle.

  • Yummy Deli, 1205 Merrill Ave.: May 4: Five violations: Raw pork and chicken stored above vegetables and sauces in walk-in cooler; broth on bottom shelf of walk-in cooler not cooled properly; person in charge not monitoring proper methods for rapidly cooling food; steam rolls and cabbage rolls not properly marked or identified with discard time; no thermometer for hot holding cabinets.

Weston

  • Chang Garden Weston, 4215 Barbican Ave.: May 10: No violations.

  • Trailside Sports Bar & Grill, 8101 Schofield Ave.: May 31: One violation: Ware-washing machine not automatically dispensing sanitizer.
