Marathon County inspections: One restaurant receives 14 violations

The following are the latest results of Marathon County Health Department inspections on licensed food establishments and other types of businesses, which the Wausau Daily Herald reports monthly.

Abbotsford

  • Pizza Hut No. 506006, 801 E. Spruce St.: April 10: Three violations: Thermometers in hot holding cabinets not accurate; ice machine dirty; squeeze bottles containing sauces not labeled.

Colby

  • Great Wall Chinese Food Restaurant, 120 Dehne Drive: April 6: Three violations: Small container used to scoop rice out of warmers; bottom of reach-in freezer dirty; floor by bulk flour bins dirty.

  • Subway, 1210 N. Division St.: April 10: Eight violations: Meatballs in marinara sauce not held at proper temperature; drain lines coming from soda fountain not properly maintained; person in charge not monitoring temperature during hot holding; employees not aware of procedure for the cleanup of vomit and diarrheal events; waste drains of soda fountain drain not cleaned regularly; floor tiles at back receiving door broken or missing; light over food prep sink too dim; mops not hung to dry between uses.

Hatley

  • Perry & Tina's Family Tradition, 173130 State 153, April 25: No violations.

Mosinee

  • The Blind Rooster Kitchen and Bar, 100 CWA Drive: April 17: No violations.

  • McDonald's, 553 State 153: April 21: Six violations: Employee seen not cleaning hands for at least 20 seconds; bottom of ice bucket cracked and broken; employee working in foot preparation area without hair restraint; ice scoop not stored properly; ice returned to ice machine; utensils and containers not air dried before being stored.

  • Meyer's Landing, 203031 State 34: April 11: No violations.

  • Paper City Lanes, 309 Third St.: April 11: One violation: No certified food manager for establishment.

  • Salty Bones, 145727 State 153: April 11: Three violations: Fish thawing in reduced oxygen packaging not removed from package; salad dressings and sauces made in house not thrown out after seven days; items pulled from freezer not re-dated.

Rothschild

  • Denny's Restaurant, 1500 Marathon County XX: April 26: One violation: Chorizo portioned into single serve packages before properly cooled.

  • Holiday Inn & Suites Wausau-Rothschild, 1000 Imperial Ave.: April 19: Two violations: Meals with food offered undercooked not identified on menu; bulk food containers not labeled.

Schofield

  • Burger King No. 4812, 6003 Business Highway 51: April 10: One violation: Floors under fryers and shelving in storeroom dirty.

  • The Palms Supper Club, 5912 Business 51 S.: April 17: Four violations: All reduced oxygen packaging fish must have package cut open during thawing process; soap and paper towel not available at employee handwashing sink for the bar; glass bowl used to dispense flour from bucket; blue bucket used for product storage not an approved container.

  • Wasabi Teppanyaki and Sushi Bar, 3703 Schofield Ave.: April 27: Four violations: Fish in reduced oxygen packaging thawed without breaking seal; wiping clothes not stored in sanitizer solution; food containers in the walk-in freezer stored on floor; women's restroom not provided with covered waste receptacle.

Stratford

  • VFW Clubhouse, 213222 State 97: April 4: No violations.

Unity

  • Perla's Place Bar & Grill, 410 Front St.: April 12: Three violations: Ready-to-eat food in coolers not date marked; no certified food manager for establishment; items stored on floor in walk-in cooler; non-working equipment in kitchen.

Wausau

  • BB Jacks, 899 Golf Course Club Road: April 18: Four violations: Nonfood contact surfaces of large mixer dirty (corrected during inspection); threshold on exterior door to the walk-in beer cooler missing; evidence of mice in basement storeroom and furnace room; floors under walk-in cooler shelving and under cooking equipment dirty.

  • Burger King No. 16098, 2100 N. Mountain Road: April 18: Five violations: Garbage can in front of prep area handwashing sink; soap not available at food employee handwashing sink in food prep area; no single-use toweling or hand drying device available at employee handwashing sink in prep area; lower shelf of table next to the grill is dirty; floors under ice machine and cooking equipment dirty.

  • Campus Pub, 1110 W. Campus Drive: April 11: No violations.

  • Cop Shoppe Pub, 701 Washington St.: April 6: Three violations: Deflector inside of ice making machine soiled; no irreversible registering thermometer for measuring utensil surface temperature in the ware washing machine; no handwashing sign provided at bathroom handwashing sinks.

  • Days Inn, 225520 Rib Mountain Drive: April 11: Three violations: Food manager certification expired (manager scheduled for refresher course in June); food preparation sink not present for washing apples and green peppers; irreversible registering thermometer not provided for measuring utensil surface temperatures in ware washing machine.

  • Hardee's of Stettin, 2609 Stewart Ave.: April 6: No violations.

  • Hiawatha Sports Bar, 713 Grant St.: April 19: Three violations: Foods in hot holding units not at proper temperature (corrected during inspection); test kit not available for checking sanitizer concentration; no permanently attached thermometer in kitchen prep coolers.

  • Hmong Eggroll, 932 S. Third Ave.: April 19: Six violations: Dishwasher not providing proper sanitation; plastic cup used for the boba tea powder mix; homestyle refrigerator used for storing potentially hazardous food; carpeting in food storage area needs replacing because of roof damage; fly strips need to be in area where food prep is not conducted; ceiling needs to be repaired to stop leaking in food storage area.

  • Jalapenos Mexican Restaurante, 300 Third St.: April 6: 14 violations: Ware washing machine not properly dispensing sanitizer; dishes and utensils not properly sanitized; person in charge unable to demonstrate knowledge regarding use of chemical sanitizers in food establishment; establishment does not have procedures that address vomiting and diarrheal events; raw chicken improperly thawed; left and right food prep table coolers out of order; test strips not available for monitoring chemical concentration in dish machine and wipe buckets; hot water not available at handwashing sink in kitchen closest to prep line; no current certified food manager for establishment; foods in walk-in cooler unwrapped or uncovered; sauces stored in unlabeled squeeze bottles in kitchen; chest freezer door broken; spigot on food prep sink broken; permit not posted in conspicuous area (corrected during inspection).

  • Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken, 2412 Grand Ave.: April 11: No violations.

  • Northcentral Technical College, 1000 W. Campus Drive: April 27: Two violations: Processes will require a variance for smoking, curing, reduced oxygen packaging and custom processing; processes will require Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point plan for smoking, curing, reduced oxygen packaging, custom processing and reduced oxygen packaging fish.

  • Rocky Rococo Pizza & Pasta, 226408 Rib Mountain Drive: April 3: Two violations: Sliced bell peppers not held a proper temperature; person in charge not monitoring food temperatures for foods during cold holding.

  • Super 8 Motel, 2006 S. Stewart Ave.: April 5: One violation: Certified food manager certificate expired (scheduled for renewal class in June).

  • Toppers Pizza, 1700 Stewart Ave. Suite 200: April 10: No violations.

Weston

  • Americinn of Weston, 4115 Barbican Ave.: April 13: Two violations: Test kit not available for checking sanitizer concentration; no handwashing sign at kitchen handwashing sink (corrected during inspection).

  • Bunkers, 1001 Golf Club Road: April 19: One violation: Reduced oxygen packaging for tuna and salmon need to be open during thawing process (corrected during inspection).

  • Hissho Sushi @ Festival Foods No 2691, 6205 Business 51: April 14: One violation: Thermometer in prep cooler not accurate

  • Osso Buco, 2601 Schofield Ave.: April 26: Two violations: Sanitizer line on dish machine cracked and leaking; no certified food manager for establishment.
