The Marble Falls school board on Tuesday named Jeff Gasaway as the district's new superintendent.

Gasaway, will replace Chris Allen, who announced in January his plans to leave Marble Falls to lead the Midway school district near Waco. Allen had been with the district eight years.

Gasaway, who had been serving as interim superintendent, has worked for the Marble Falls district since 2016, most recently as deputy superintendent of administration.

"I am honored to have the faith and confidence of the board, staff and community to lead the Marble Falls district to new heights," Gasaway said.

The district will pay Gasaway $200,000 annually and provide him a $700 monthly car stipend, according to his contract obtained by the Statesman.

School board President Kevin Naumann said Gasaway was a natural fit for the job.

"He has been loyal to the district and has a proven track record of smart, thoughtful and strategic decision making, all while loving every child, staff and community member in a way that inspires them to be their very best," Naumann said.

Throughout his career, Gasaway has served as an athletic trainer, teacher, coach, principal and director of human resources and has worked for the Lubbock Cooper, Plano and Midway school districts. He has also been an adjunct professor at Baylor University.

The school board tapped Gasaway as the lone finalist for the job on March 6. In Texas, districts must wait 21 days between naming a finalist and officially offering the candidate the superintendent position.

Marble Falls is one of a few districts in the Austin area that has been looking for a new administrative chief. The Austin district has been searching for a new superintendent since last summer, when Stephanie Elizalde left to lead the Dallas district. The Manor district is also searching for a new superintendent after Andre Spencer left in December.
