Anna Friel has revealed that she had to vomit on the set of ITV thriller Marcella while filming a particularly challenging scene.

While working on the upcoming third series, particularly distressing scenes caused her physical sensations that she'd rather forget, as Friel told Metro and other press in a recent interview.

"I tend to let it affect me once it's a wrap on the whole season because otherwise it can get overwhelming," she explained.

"Sometimes I've got myself to such a state that I've kind of rushed into the trailer and thrown up because the cortisol levels have gone to such a high status and the body is being poisoned by the stress.

"But you do relive it but because I give everything to her. I become her to a certain extent."

Friel also spoke to Digital Spy about the third series' delay on UK screens.

"It's been really, really frustrating, and also to not be able to tell the wonderful, lovely, supportive fanbase exactly when it was coming out, because the schedule just kept changing all the time, due to the virus and the advertisers and so many different elements," she told us.

Marcella is set to return to ITV for its third series on Tuesday, January 26 at 9pm.
