Here’s What March 2019’s Super ‘Worm’ Moon Means for Your Love Life

We’re coming up on our third supermoon of the year on March 20. We’ve already had a supermoon and a blood moon this year, and it’s only Q1— is it too much to ask for a little lunar peace? Apparently, it is. Here’s what you need to know to get ready for this big old can of Worm Moon.

What is the Worm Moon?
The March full moon is always called the Worm Moon because it usually occurs during spring. And spring showers bring flowers…and also: worms.

This year, the full moon actually happens on the day of the vernal equinox, which is the advent of Aries season. This is usually a fertile, energetic time when life begins a new cycle after hibernation (or death) in winter.

However, full moons are usually emotionally charged events, as they dig up underlying discord and lay it out in the open to be resolved or discarded. It’s a monthly exercise in letting go, lest we get soft. So, this spring, at least some of the showers may be tears.

Partnerships may be in crisis
All full moons are oppositions between the sun and the moon (that’s why they are so tense!), which means if it’s Aries season, then this Worm Moon is in its opposite sign, Libra. That’s a classic “me vs. you” face-off, as Aries longs for independence and to assert their own will, and Libra wants to compromise and work as a team.

Even if it doesn’t hit a relationship sector in your chart, this lunation will likely spark tension with someone close to you. Anything you might be burying—even unconsciously—will rise to the surface like worms after a rainstorm. If you want the relationship to live, tread lightly.

Also, Mercury will be in retrograde and in opposition
One more twist: Mercury will be in retrograde during the Worm Moon. Not only that, it’ll be (almost) still in opposition, which puts all the mischief of a naughty Mercury on the wrong side of this emotional, relationship-seeking full moon.

Communication is key to any partnership, and so you’ll feel the misfires very acutely. Expect misunderstandings or accidental games of telephone. Or you may lose your actual phone while someone on the other end is losing their mind. It’s a lot, and while you cannot beat Mercury in retrograde (he’s too quick!), you can wait him out and watch him tire. Patience—the thing he does not have—will be your savior. If you can resist the impulsivity that comes with Aries season and slow down any major decisions, you’ll be left standing when the storm passes.
