Approximately 30 acres of Fairway Farm, between Paris Pike and Bryan Station Road, has been donated to the city for a future park.

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council took its first vote Tuesday to approve the donation of the property. Here’s what the city plans to do with the donated horse farm land.

When West Jessamine High School junior Trevor Bush went to Disney World at age five, he was fascinated by the stunts shown in Indiana Jones.

Now, at age 16, Bush has a lead role in an upcoming Disney+ original series, “The Crossover,” based on the 2014 children’s book by American author Kwame Alexander; winner of the 2015 Newbery Medal and Coretta Scott King Award Honor.

Around the Commonwealth

A special examination of Kentucky State University’s finances revealed widespread overspending, a lack of financial control, and misuse of credit cards and university funds, according to a report released by the Office of the Auditor of Public Accounts Wednesday.

The Herald-Leader’s Monica Kast has the details from the 117-page report.

It’s not every day that a Kentucky Civil War artifact turns up on eBay.

But that’s just what happened when a historian group discovered that someone was selling a hospital ledger tied to the Battle of Perryville online. After a $3,000 purchase, a Kentucky historian studied the ledger, revealed some new Civil War mysteries, and donated the ledger to the Harrodsburg Historical Society.

And the University of Kentucky said it is focused on returning Native American remains and artifacts to tribes, after a report in January revealed the university is one of the largest holders of those objects that have not been returned to tribes.

Politics

The end of last week marked an important deadline for the Republican-dominated Kentucky legislature: the final day of session before the ‘veto break.’

The legislature has given final passage to 145 bills so far. So, what exactly did they pass? Well over a hundred bills, but here are a handful to keep an eye on.

Anything passed by the Republican-dominated legislature the final two days of session — March 29 and 30 — runs the risk of being vetoed by Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear without the possibility of a legislative override.
