Marcus closing Milwaukee, Franklin, Saukville theaters

Marcus Theatres has announced three cinemas in or around the Milwaukee area will close for good later this month.

Southgate Cinema, 3330 S. 30th St., will close on Tuesday, while Showtime Cinema, 8910 S. 102nd St. in Franklin, and Saukville Cinema, 350 S. Riverside Drive, will close Sept. 17, the company said in a statement Friday.

The company said the amenities at these three theaters were not providing the best moviegoing experience and they determined that customers are better served at other nearby theaters.

Marcus BistroPlex Southridge in Greendale and Marcus South Shore Cinema in Oak Creek are in close proximity to the former Southgate location. While, Marcus BistroPlex Southridge and Marcus Ridge Cinema in New Berlin are in close proximity to the former Showtime location.

For Saukville, Marcus recommends the North Shore Cinema in Mequon or the Menomonee Falls cinema.

For those looking to experience Southgate one last time before Tuesday there are a number of films being shown, including the box office hit "Barbie." Denzel Washington is starring in the latest sequel in the "Equalizer" series and the 1985 cult classic "'"The Goonies" will be shown at Southgate before the closure as well.
