Marcus Rashford announces engagement with romantic proposal photo

Footballer Marcus Rashford has revealed that he is engaged to be married to his high school sweetheart Lucia Loi by posting a romantic proposal photo on Instagram.
Rashford popped the question to his girlfriend while on a romantic holiday in Hollywood, surrounded by candles and rose petals in front of a giant love heart made of flowers.
He posted a picture of him and Loi embracing in front of the giant flower heart to mark the announcement, with a simple caption of the date "24.05.22", and tagged his now fiancée. She shared the same picture on her social media as well.
Since the announcement, the couple has received thousands of comments and well wishes from fans, peers and celebrities across the globe, who want to congratulate them on their engagement.
Rashford's Manchester United teammates, both current and former, including James Garner, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Devonte Redmond expressed their happiness at the announcement by leaving congratulatory comments under the post.
Marcus and Lucia first started dating when they were just 15 years old, and she has been there to support Marcus throughout his football career.
The footballer gained recognition outside of sports when he championed free meals for vulnerable school children in England during the coronavirus pandemic, forcing Prime Minister Boris Johnson to extend free school meals and make a U-turn on his original policy.
Johnson had initially rejected his plea for the government to keep paying for £15-a-week food vouchers for some of England's poorest families over the summer, but then reversed his decision after public outcry.
This move resulted in Rashford getting an MBE in 2021 from Prince William at Windsor Castle. At the ceremony, he dedicated his title to his mother Melanie, whom he credits with raising him and his four siblings.
There has been no official wedding date announcement from Rashford and Loi yet.
