Mardi Gras, parade, ENC pride event among things to do locally during month of February

February is going to be busy in New Bern with family-friendly events and a full list of things to do locally during the month. A Black History parade, Mardi Gras in Ghent and an ENC Pride Drag Show are just a few happenings in the area.

Quilting Guild exhibit is open

The Twin Rivers Quilting Guild is open at the N.C. History Center. The exhibit will be open daily at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday and will open at noon on Sunday until March 27. The N.C. Film series presents Ali's Wedding

Explorations: The International Film Series at Craven Community College will present “Ali”s Wedding” a 2017 international film, at 2:30 p.m., 4:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 4 in the Orringer Auditorium. CCA to host health fair

Coastal Community Action Health & Resource Fair will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 4 at New Bern Riverfront Convention Center, 203 S Front St. Representatives from Coastal Women’s Shelter along with many other community organizations will be present. For more information, call 252-223-1655.

Red Carpet event for movie in Jones County

D'Aja Fulmore of Fulmore Films will present A Red Carpet Affair on Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Jones County Civic Center, 832 N.C. Hwy. 58 in Trenton for her full length feature film entitled Crossover. Formal attire is requested. The red carpet will start at 5 p.m. for cast members and VIP guests. Doors will open for priority guest and others at 6 p.m.

Volunteers wanted for Clean Sweep

Craven County Clean Sweep starts at 9 a.m. Feb. 5 at the Craven County Administration Building, 406 Craven St. Volunteers can stop by to pick up supplies and a place to clean. For more information, visit cravencountync.gov or call 252-633-1477.

Reception and card sale at ArtWalk

Art Walk will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 11 in downtown New Bern. An opening reception for BIG will be held in the Main Gallery and a Valentines Card sale will be in the Director's Gallery. For more information, visit cravenarts.org.

Sweetheart Ball set for fathers and daughters

The 10th Annual Daddy Daughter Sweetheart Ball will start at 6 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Maola Event Center. Guests will include the New Bern High School Drill Team and emcee is Roxann Wheeler. Show to benefit ENC Pride

The Big Love Drag Show benefitting ENC Pride will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at The Garage, 1209 U.S. 70 East. There will be a cast of all plus size drag kings, queens, and beings. Performers must be 200 pounds or more to enter. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $15 for VIP seating. Tickets go up $5 the day of the event. The New Bern Historical Society's Lunch & Learn program entitled "I, Too, Served America, The Stories of Greenwood Cemetery’s Veterans" will be held at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 16 at the Carolina Colours Pavilion, 3300 Waterscape Way. Lecture series goes virtual

A Black History Month Parade hosted by Victor Taylor and Vision Forward on Feb. 19. Rain date is Feb. 26. Line up starts at 10 a.m. at the corner of Trent Road and First Street. Guinness record holder to speak at gala

The Eastern Carolina Aviation Heritage Foundation's 13th Annual Gala will be held at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Havelock Tourist & Event Center, 201 Tourist Center Dr., Havelock. LtCol. Art Nalls, USMC (Ret), Guinness Book of World Record holder, will be the speaker sharing his story.
