Mardi Gras parade in Palestine could get canceled due to rain, no plans to reschedule

PALESTINE, Texas (KETK)– The Palestine Mardi Gras parade returns for its 14th year on Saturday afternoon but possible rain could end up making organizers cancel it.

The event will feature two floats, horses, marching bands, bead throwing and more.

It’s put on the first Saturday of February every year and tries to bring the energy like New Orleans.

“I think we have fun and like I said it’s a family good time parade,” said organizer Erin Goolsby.

The parade will start at the Anderson County Courthouse, then will make its way down Avenue A, then right on Oak Street and will finish at the Palestine Visitor’s Center

“Even with the weather the way that it is, we expect to see have the parade,” said Goolsby.

If the weather does get bad, Goolsby said if they have to cancel, there won’t be any rescheduling.

“People are coming out of town that I would give notice from,” said Goolsby. “I have most of their numbers or emails that I would them know as well.”

The parade is set for 5:30 P.M. and organizers will start setting up around 2 hours before it starts.
