KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A brand new Margaritaville Hotel is set to open in Kansas City, Kansas, next year.

The hotel will be in the area of the old Schlitterbahn Water Park, situated directly east of The Legends at the northeast corner of I-70 and I-435 in Western Wyandotte County.

Rick Cunningham, the senior vice president of development at Margaritaville, said the choice to add a location in Kansas City had a lot of thought behind it.

“At Margaritaville, we carefully and thoughtfully choose which markets to enter and are excited to build upon our footprint in the Midwest region with Margaritaville Hotel Kansas City. Kansas City is a lively destination, and we look forward to investing in and becoming a dedicated part of the community,” Cunningham said.

Construction is already underway where very little evidence remains of Schlitterbahn Water Park, the site where a 10-year-old boy died on a water slide in 2016. The waterpark has been out of operation since 2018.

Developers are also building an indoor athletic facility, along with eight youth baseball fields, that will be owned by Homefield.

“Along with fellow Homefield partners Trey Bowen, Mathew Bowen and Richard Napper, I couldn’t be more excited to add Margaritaville Hotel Kansas City to the Homefield development in early 2025,” Greg Maday, the co-owner of Homefield, said.

“The turnaround we envisioned has ever-increasing energy, and the community is getting the fine development they deserve.”
