The Open Field/Viking, Maria Shriver’s publishing imprint, will publish No Filter, a collection of essays from former model Paulina Porizkova on October 25 of this year, Oprah Daily can exclusively report. The publisher described the volume as “a series of intimate, introspective, and enlightening essays about the complexities of womanhood at every age.” Editor Amy Sun will edit the book, which was acquired from agent Marly Rusoff.

Porizkova was born in Cold War Czechoslovakia and gained fame after appearing on the cover of a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue in 1984, at age 18. Over the course of the next few year, she emerged as one of the highest-paid, most recognizable models in the world. When she was cast in the music video for the song “Drive,” by the Cars, she met and fell in love with the band’s frontman, Ric Ocasek—who was 40 at the time, while Porizkova was just 19. The pair later wed and had two sons. Then, after 28 years of marriage, they announced they were splitting up, though they never formally divorced. In September 2019 Ocasek died, and Porizikova discovered she had been cut out of his will. Porizkova shared that betrayal on social media, and her candor and vulnerability about forgiveness and the need to start over moved fans.

About that time, Porizkova says, “Three years ago, I was pushed off the ocean liner I thought was my world, and found myself in dark waters, searching for lights to guide me. I know the importance of those who light the way, and I hope this book can be a light for others. Being able to write a book for Maria Shriver’s new imprint is the chance to broadcast a light from her lighthouse, and I’m honored and grateful to be able to contribute to her mission of uniting all the lights she finds.”

Maria Shriver offered this: “I reached out to Paulina because I thought she was uniquely qualified to write in real time about the different challenges women face throughout life’s various phases: aging with honesty, coping with loss and identity, finding a renewed sense of mission and purpose, and using your voice to inspire others as they deal with the same issues.”

Porizkova has appeared in 16 movies and numerous TV shows and served as a judge America’s Next Top Model. Her debut novel, A Model Summer, was published in 2007. This is her nonfiction debut.
